Speeding Vista up - increasing its performance! by
Diamontina Cocktail
No, I don't have answers, I am hoping to entice people who have ideas into
saying what works, no matter if that means turning features off or not.
One thing I did to make a HUGE difference is to turn search indexing off and
remove indexing from all drives. That makes the machine a real lot faster
but makes searches, which I rarely do, slower. I would recommend that, if
you want a faster...

Vista Ultimate Backup & Restore by
RussJR
I use a USB external hard drive to backup my laptop. I did a windows
complete pc backup on 2/13, not knowing what I was doing. I then proceeded
to restore one file and learned that I had done the wrong backup. I then
deleted my current backup folder on the external hard drive. Now, how do I
clear out the last backup history date so that Vista knows I no long have
those backup...

bootable vista disc by
Troy Marrs
I seem to remember using the iso option in Nero burning software to make a
bootable xp disc from a pre-installed xp pro system. I just bought an hp
with vista premium pre-installed and would love to make a bootable (full
version) disc of vista in case I need to do a clean install. Anyone?

Bill
This is so stupid, but I have lost the Win Exp Index Score window. When I
loaded Vista there were links to rerunning it, etc, now I can't
find them. I go to Control Panel, Performace Information, then a screen
comes up that says "Not sure where to start??" What am I doing
wrong????
Thanks

monitor by
buddylee9898
I recently put windows vista home premium onto my dell inspiron laptop.
However, when I close my lid my monitor stays on(I did not want my laptop to
go into sleep). I was wondering if there was a way to have the monitor shut
off right away when the lid is closed without going into sleep like you were
able to do in previous windows.

Move Data to another Partition in Vista by
bunyup
I really should not need to ask this…but I loaded Vista into my brand new C2D
computer last week and I cannot see how I can move ALL data for ALL users
from the C primary boot partition to either the second partition on that
drive or to another drive. It should be a simple matter, but I have
struggled from DOS-3.11-98-XP-XPsp2-Vista over the years without more than
average problems, I am...

Bugs in RDP6 by
Adrian Marsh (NNTP)
Anyone know where I can report faults with RD client 6?
I installed the client onto my XP Pro laptop, and I'm accessing a Vista
Business machine.. Yet after X minutes of working, I'll see my CPU
usage skyrocket to 100%, and I see the mstsc process with 300/400Mb of
memory in use..

Backup and Restore by
paulhar
I just noticed that .sh files aren't being backed up by the Backup and
Restore Centre.
I've checked the registry key associated with excluding files (it doesn't
list any specific file extentions), and the built in help just says "program
files".
1. Is there a definitive list of file extensions that aren't backed up?
2. How do I force include files I want backed up?
Thanks

Windows defender - startup blocking some by
Puppy Breath
UAC prevents programs that require admin permissions from auto-starting in a
standard account. If you click Show For All Users in Defender and escalate
your privileges, the those disabled buttons will be enabled. Also, which
you're in Defender you can click its Help button and search the help for
"block startup programs" for more info.

Is Readyboost worthwhile? by

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on Readyboost. Is it worthwhile,
and if so, under what circumstances would I benefit from it? I've got 1 GB
ram.
Thanks,
