Strange behaviour when I close my laptop lid by Joyoyo
Hi to everybody! I´ve been running Windows Vista (Home Premium) normally since January 30 but today a strange behaviour started to happen everytime I close my notebook´s lid: I noticed that HD´s led kept blinking and, as I hadnt set my system to go into suspend/hibernate mode as soon as I close the lid, I reopened it to find the screen off but the power & wireless led were on as if the...

Outlook -- AutoArchive Delete by Clipper
For years, I've been trying unsuccessfully to get Outlook to automatically delete messages over a certain age in particular folders. I've right clicked on the selected folders, chosen Properties, gone to the AutoArchive tab, and clicked the appropriate buttons, but it never does the deletions. Maybe it's a problem w/ Outlook 2003 that's be fixed in 2007, but I have my doubts. Advice?

nvmcp.sys in windows update causes BSOD of my system. by Lakesidezx
When I first installed vista home premium 32bit and tried to play any of my games it would result in a BSOD with nvmcp.sys being the culprit. The helper system said that I need to update my nvmcp.sys file from windows update but there wasn't one to update to, it never listed it. I used the DFI (my mainboard mfg) Nvidia NF4 CD that came with my mainboard which is meant for XP and not vista to...

I have read a few posts on here with people having similar problems that I am having. I upgraded from xp sp2 to vista home premium. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3800+, 2 GB ram, NVIDIA Geforce 7600 gt. I am not running the 64 version of vista. my pc randomly restarts sometimes for what appears to be no reason. I play a lot of video games and all of them play the same as in xp except for...

What are the large fluctuations in drive free space? by Mickey Segal
After an upgrade from XP to Vista, the "free space" on my 80 GB hard drive fluctuates back and forth between 36 GB and 42 GB, having hit both the higher and lower numbers several times. Using Windows Explorer and TreeSize I don't see where the extra material is, but both tools are denied access to a few folders such as System Volume Information. Is the 6 GB swing due to changes in size of...

will upgrading RAM require a reinstall to update HAL? by johnm
I'm currently running 1Gb of DDR2 RAM on a home built machine. Installed Vista and so far no problems. My questions is... if I upgrade and add another 1Gb of RAM, will this require a new install? Seems to me there was an issue with either Win2K or XP that if crossed a certain line (total RAM) it required a reinstall to update the HAL any ideas?

Attention: for everyone with ATI video cards by mc
There are new drivers at ATI - AMD especially for Vista: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html It will stabilise the videocard problems for most of you I guess! I installed the latest ATI driver (Catalyst 7.1), I have a ATI Radeon Mobilty card and it fixed also some other minor video problems (first uninstall all old ATI drivers of course)

NTFS error - error 137 by etoel
My event viewer reports this error alot - actually for all my disks... It says something about that the resource handlerfor transactions has detected an unrecoverable error and failed to start. I get this for all my volumes - I don't think it is the disks that are at fault, but the service :) There is no info available for this event it seems. Event-XML-fil: Event...

Raid 0 mirroring on a preinstalled Vista machine by Anthony Marsh
Vista was already installed on the machine I bought which came with only one 160 GB SATA drive. What if I later on want to add a second SATA HD? Can I then make it do a RAID 0 with the existing HD? Does it have to be exactly the same size? Same brand? Same model?

PowerSpec V300 by Anthony Marsh
I bought the PowerSpec V300 from Micro Center and it runs Windows Vista Home Premium flawlessly. But there was no manual for the machine itself so I wonder about some of its internals. I am only using the one SATA 160 GB hard drive right now, but need to buy a power splitter to add my old HD to transfer files. But then I want to add 4 more HDs, so I need to buy more splitters. It comes with...

Slow startup after system updates by Chris
After a "clean install" of Vista Ultimate I went online to "Windows Update" and got some additional updates. I restarted the machine and during bootup the system sat at a black screen for 20 minutes. No hard drive activity. Then the hard drive suddenly came to life and Vista finally loaded up. I went to ATI and upgraded my drivers to the latest version. Being prompted to restart, I went...
