mc
When I have to shutdown my notebook and it has to restart automaticly (after
I installed a program or anything that will ask for an automatic restart),
it won´t work anymore.
So I have to completely shutdown by powerbutton and then manually start up
by the powerbutton.
I have Home Basic installed on a IBM Thinkpad A30 (yes an ´oldie´ but it
works though), everything works very fine, accept...

Override feature scaling of vista by
hiskeyd
Hi,
According to technet
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa940972.aspx) it is
possible to override the feature scaling of Vista, as long as you are logged
in as an administrator.
I am logged in as such and have not been able to find the setting where I
can do this. How does one do override the scaling feature?

Power States and Scheduled Tasks by
Spartan
Two questions
First I have a water cooled cpu and was wondering about the different power
saving states. If I put my pc on sleep or whatever that new power button does
will my cpu overheat?
Second if my pc is in one of those states and a scheduled task is supposed
to run what happens? Does my pc wake up and run the task? Does it go back to
sleep once the task is done?

Automatic Defrag? by
TSAdmiral
I've recently upgraded to Vista. I've heard that there is some service that
automatically defrags the hard drive when the computer is idle. Is this true?
If so, how do configure this?

Disappearing Windows Updates by
Jimmy Tseng
When I just installed Vista Ultimate, I went to update. I wanted to download
the Chinese Language Pack, but I cancelled it just to speed up the updates.
Now that I have time now to download, the update disappeared! Its still in
my update history, but I can't get Windows Update to download it again. Is
there some way I can download that update again? Thanks!

Reliability Monitor not updating by
Daniel Danilin
Some day I found that Reliability Monitor shows only date: 1.1.1970. After
some search in registry I found that it uses files in
c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\RAC\. But they was empty (size 0, but filled with
zeroes). I deleted them. And started c:\windows\system32\racagen.exe
(elevated). After this I could see all dates. But this information is not
updating automaticaly anymore. How do I...

CPU at 100% - ZCfgSvc.exe is the culprit by
Twinson
I've seen many posts on Vista chewing CPU performance, but don't know how to
solve the problem. My processor usage is constantly at 100%. When I go to
the processes section of Task Manager, it says ZCfgSvc.exe is using 80+%.
ZCfgSvc.exe is the driver for my Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG card. The are no
updates for this driver so I'm not sure whether it is the problem or in
conflict with...

affects the desktop or sometimes video. I will simply need to click a link in

Should I order the 64-bit version of Vista? by
Spaz
Ok, I bought Vista home edition at the store and it's the 32-bit version.
Inside the packaged they offer the 64-bit version for only 10 bucks. I have
the latest computer system which is capable of running the 64-bit version.
Is there really any advantage to doing so if I'm not running more than 2 gig
RAM?

Disk Defragmention by
Deren Smith
Disk Defragmenter in Vista is now more worthless than it was in Windows XP.
For whatever reason the Vista team took out the graphical diagram that showed
how much of your system was fragmented and the bits of the hard drive. The
also took out the little progress bar/percentage of when the Disk
Defragmenter would be completed.
My wish is to PLEASE put back a real progress bar that shows...

Vista Defrag schedule? by
Lakesidezx
Im curious if this is possible.
It seems that I can modify the schedule for when defrag happens in Vista and
it's default settings on my computer is something like Wednesday at 1am but
I don't leave my computer on 24 hours a day and by 1am Im usually asleep.
So does Vista wake up my computer when it's off on wednesdays at 1am, defrag
everything, then shut it back down again?
I believe that...

Vista RTM Windows Experience Index by
Muffy Tyrone
I'm running Vista RTM on a desktop. I've just bought a RADEON 9600PRO (256Mb)
video card. I have installed latest ATI Catalyst Vista drivers. When I update
my Windows Experience Index I still get a rating of 1.0 for both graphics and
gaming graphics.
The strange thing is that Aero can be enabled...
Any ideas why the Windows Experience Index is not updating correctly

Vista Backup by
Scott
Questions:
1) Is there an optimal (or preferred) allocation unit size the target disk
should be formatted to
for Vista complete system backup?
2) Can the target disk be compressed via the disk properties check-box?
What if any impact will this have on backup speed, restore speed, and
general
backup reliability?
