Restore Won't Find Backup Set! by
victorcamp
On Windows Vista Ultimate I made a complete backup using the Backup and
Restore Center ("Back up computer") to a USB 100Gb portable drive. It went
fine, and the drive shows a WindowsImageBackup folder on its root. It totals
about 65Gb. 2 days later that laptop crashed and I got another laptop with
the same Windows Vista Ultimate. I want to restore some selected files
(client work, not system...

The user profile service failed the logon by
Victek
I started Vista this evening and was greeted with this message when I tried
to log in:
"The user profile service failed the logon"
Fortunately I found a solution involving editing the user SID in the
registry while in SAFE mode. That was a big relief since I was not looking
forward to restoring from an image. I can post the details of the fix if
anyone is curious, but at the moment I'm...

64 bit UNIX like operating systems - a free root account by

To learn, a free root account, is a tool. It may not be a bad idea to
avail of the free root access I provide. Via such free account, 64 bit
hardware issues, device drivers, system performance, internet
architecture, browsers such as lynx, and applications on a UNIX like
operating system, may, be delved into. Issues in, Vista, networking,

Unable to get Windows Updates by
Terry[_3_]
On a Toshiba with Vista Home Premium, it won't allow Updates to open the
site. Whether from the Start menu, or Microsoft.com. It says Windows
Explorer has a problem and needs to shut down, which closes all windows.
From any access point the same problem occurs trying to get updates. I did
download and install Service Pack 1 and it says it is installed, and only 14
updates are showing in the...

Antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy. by
Omar123
*I have tried so many different types of scans to help keep my PC
running at its best and one thing that I discovered is that they all
tend to find the same types of bugs. The main difference between them
all is the price that you pay. Recently I discovered Search-and-destroy
Antispyware at _http://www.Search-and-destroy.com_ and I really like it
a lot. Antispyware solution from...

Backup and Restore Center Password by
Frank C[_2_]
I just installed a network 1TB disk to use for backup of two computers. The
Backup and Restore center is asking for a password. I did not see an
opportunity to assign a password. Neither computer has a password for logon.
Any advice?
Thanks

Setting process priority so it runs when screen is locked by
P Adhia
Hello Experts,
I run some CPU intensive processes (video encoding using X264) in a
command shell. Since I don't want it to affect my normal foreground
applications, I set it to IDLE/BELOW_NORMAL priority using Process
Explorer. However, when I lock my screen (manually or automatically
after some idle time), the encoding virtually stops. When I unlock my
screen, I can see from recent history that...

SHLWAPI.dll, high CPU by
gkeizer
I've been trying to nail down a high CPU usage problem by exploreer.exe's
SHLWAPI.dll for weeks, but haven't succeeded. Sometimes I can Suspend in
"Process Explorer," then Resume and it'll drop off; other times that doesn't
work. Sometimes a restart will solve the problem, other times it won't. I
can't see a pattern. I'm talking 35-40% CPU (Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz) usage. No
matter how long...
