Sidebar/Task manager not working by
Mako[_2_]
When I boot up my notebook, the sidebar doesn't appear, the network icon
in the taskbar has a red X on it (but I'm still connected to a network),
and the task manager won't appear after pressing ctrl-shift-esc or right
clicking on the taskbar. When I try to bring up the task manager, all I
get is a green grid icon in the taskbar which cannot be accessed. If I
try to initiate task manager multiple...

I am losing by Desktop......... by
Drew Leyda[_2_]
Gentlemen:
When I download and install Windows updates I normally restart my computer.
Often when I do this, during the restart, I get the message "Preparing your desktop".
When my Desktop appears it is the configuration is was when I first got the computer 2 years ago. All my personalizing is gone.
Is there any way to stop this from happening?

setup.exe has stopped working by
awest9@gmail.com
I have seen many people that have gotten this message. But there are
very few that get it when they are trying to install a program. I was
trying to install microsoft web developer express and I've tried
everything and the same thing always happens. It gets almost finished
and then says that setup.exe has stopped working.

Not your normal Wake From Sleep by
Dragon41673
Hello,
I'm trying to find out why my computer keeps waking up from sleep.
Unfortunately I've not been able to track this down. I leave the house
around 9am, don't get back home till 8pm, and the computer has turned on
while I've been at work. My fiancee can't ever remember to check right
when she gets home to see if it's on then or not, so I have no other
time frame to deal with at the moment...

Vista x64 8GB + Video RAM? by
PaxeSalute[_13_]
Hello everyone,
This is my doubt,
I have 8GB RAM installed (max for my MoBo) and 2 Video Card 512MB.
So this will mean that my Vista Home Premium x64 have to deal with 9GB
RAM.
How can I be sure that it takes full advantage of all RAM?

Immediately before this is says "Your computer was not able to renew
its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the...

Windows Defender Not Working by
leah49
Upon startup for the past week I have been recieving the following error
"0x800106ba." Windows Defender will not start up. If I try to start it
up manually I get the same error. I went to this page 'Error message
when you run Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba"'
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849) as directed by Microsoft. I
tried to uninstall it, but it's not in the...

Recovery problems, 32bit by
Shadoweb
My laptop took a mean spill and lost it's LCD screen. I repaired the
screen and it began to give me errors. At the moment it's missing a
"system32\config\system". I found my Vista recovery disk, it loads the
files and shows me a Microsoft loading bar. It passes the bar and stops
at a black screen with the arrow cursor on it. Is this supposed to
happen? How long do it take for the disk to show me...

appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or
shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window

No sound from laptop speakers-Vista problem source by
TVeblen
My daughter's Compaq Presario F700 laptop has an intermittent no sound
issue. It works through the laptop's speakers for a while, stops working for
a while, and then starts working again. She is not aware of any specific
activity that causes the symptoms. Running Vista SP2. The issue was
happening before and after the service pack update (I do not believe it is
related).
I have done due...

Problems getting the Vista backup program to create backups correctly by
Robert Miles
For the last few weeks, all my attempts to create a backup
on DVDs have failed, almost always the second time the
backup program needs to format a new DVD to write
the backup to. It then says that I need to do a full backup
instead - but asking for a full backup instead gives the
same result.
Something about a problem with the backup catalog -
don't have the error message on the screen to copy...

How can I fix the hive? by
Darkwing
Long story short, I loaded hive via regedit, and move some files from
my desktop to the public folder while in there. Now I can no longer
boot into windows, the computer simply restarts, and I do know that
the volume is now corrupt. In retrospect, I realize that messing
around in hive caused this, and I'm kicking myself for it.
Now all I can do is try to correct this. I am currently...

Stationery path question by
Mary O.
This was the path to my stationery folder before I used Revo unstaller to
uninstall the program "malwarebot remover"
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Stationery
Now AppData no longer appears and the Local folder is empty.
Did the uninstaller cause this and is it necessary to have these items in
the list?
I now access my stationery folder in this way:

disable ReadyBoost while on battery? by
Jan Wagner
Hi, got a Lenovo X61t laptop/tablet with built-in SD card reader and
I'm using the reader mainly with a 4G sdhc for readyboost.
Often readyboost decides to reorder/refresh the cache with lots of
SATA drive activity for 5 minutes or so. On AC this is fine. But it
also happens on battery which is drains the battery faster.
So is there any method (say, even some 3rd party prog) to...
