windows update wants to restart all the time by
Allan
After downloading some recent updates the computer asks me to reboot in order
to install them. I restart the computer and the message appears again so I
assumed it needed several restarts. Unfortunately this is still persisting
following some 6-7 reboots. When I enter the Windows Update screen at
Control Panel\Security\Windows Update I am unable to check for updates as the
screen is...

Vista Screensaver by
Sepsis
I know this question keeps coming up but I have yet to find a solution.
Basically my Vista screensavers reset to nothing everytime I reboot my
machine. I can preview them, I can set a time and it works once I
"apply" it. But as soon as I turn off the machine and then reboot it has
reset to nothing, and I have to set it again to get it to work. This is
quite annoying.
I do not have any wireless...

Windows Vista Backup and Restore Center by
Wayne Smith
Hi everyone,
I've recently upgraded to a new PC with Vista installed, I've been using XP Professional for a few years and pretty much know the operating system inside out, my knowledge of Vista however is fairly good, but far from what I would call in-depth.
After spending a fair amount of time reviewing the backup and restore options within Windows Vista, I'm left scratching my head wondering...

For the last few days my 'pc' (http://www.vistax64.com/#) takes three

installed around that time.
All malware and virus scans come up clean. Could this update be the

It takes 90 sec. to get to the welcome screen, then the screen goes
black untill the programs begin to load at 195 seconds. the loading of

Determining what service is tieing up computer by
Ray Titus[_2_]
How can I determine what service is tieing up my computer?
I am running Vista Home Premium, x64 w/Quad CPU. At various times, the
computer will begin disk operations which completely tie up the computer;
CPU use is minimal but response time drops to 30-45 seconds at best. There
are no user applications running.
The only things I can think of is the indexing service or, perhaps, a
background...

I have tried everything I could think of:

system restore to when it was working properly
Adding it to trusted sites in Kapersky etc

increased RAM -- but sometimes performance is worse by
Jeff[_17_]
I increased the RAM on my Compaq Presario SR2002X from 512M to 2G (both old
and new are the same speed, PC2-4200). Both the BIOS Setup and the System
dialog in the Control Panel show that they are using the new memory. As
expected, a variety of things run faster now. In particular, all those
security dialogs that come up and dim the desktop whenever you start some
system maintenance process. ...

Vista disk defrag question by
EW[_6_]
Does Vista (Home Premium, in my case) defrag the hard drive(s) on its
own, without being scheduled to do so? I know I can manually force a
defrag, but what about unscheduled defrags? Thanks.
