Can't access system tray or windows clock by
Joe7dust
I ran an .exe file in order to remove that little blue line at the bottom
that is supposedly a "hidden" taskbar, and now I can't seem to undo it.
When I load windows the taskbar is there, but without the clock and the
system tray icon'd programs. Then I run the hidetaskbar.exe and it goes away
completely which is great, but how do I access the system tray programs?
In particular, I'm having...

a two parter...'search' has gone missing from the start menu, by
mosander
Recently, I went to the start menu to search for a file, and found (or
rather, did not find...) that 'search' had gone missing from the menu. I can
still use it from specific pages, such as My Documents, but not as a general
option. Any suggestions?
Secondly, Internet Explorer has an annoying habit of locking up, then giving
me the option of exiting the program or restarting... again, any...

Right click on folders and files is too slow by
loopback0
Rt click on Vista Ultimate 64 is so slow it is now almost unusable. I am
considering a whole reinstall because of it. This affects rt click on files
and folders mainly and is often followed by Explorer needing to restart.

Flashing Screen on Start-up by
timmayhoyt
Hey I've got a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop with Vista. When I sign on from my
start-up screen the screen will flash to the desktop like normal, then it
will suddenly flash black, then back to the desktop, then it will flash
black, then back to the desktop. So it flashes black usually two or three
times, and is just really annoying. Anyone have any ideas as of why it does
it, or possibly how to...

Start Menu Office 2007 shortcuts have stopped working by
PaulaSnap
when I go to the Start menu, click on a recently used Office 2007 program or
a pinned Office 2007 program, nothing happens. They don't launch. When I
open an actual office 2007 file, the apps load fine however.
My other pinned and recent apps shortcuts work - for example, Quickbooks,
Epson Scan, MS Email, MS Internet
Can anyone help me sort this out? Would really like to have a useful...

Hi Guys,
This is my first post on this forum so I apologize if its in the wrong
section, I assumed its performance related so here I go.
I have just purchased a Netgear DG834G v4 with the latest firmware and
was shocked when I ran the Microsoft internet connectivity evaluation
tool and it failed the "TCP high performance test" I did have
auto-tuning=highlyrestricted and ECN=enabled, RSS side...

Never Re-Activate After Installation
If you have to reinstall Windows XP you normally will have to reactivate
too. Well not anymore. Just copy wpa.dbl after you activated the first time.
It is located in the WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now if you reinstall Windows
XP just copy the file back and you're up and running again.
Found this little snippet on the net what is the corresponding Vista...

Task manager /Performance by
Hike_Mike
On the screeen (dual core) for CPU useage there are two CPU useage histories.
Which CPU is 'CPU useage' referring to? Simarly in "Processes' is the CPU
the sum of the two CPUs or one of them, or adjust equivalent to one of them.
The reason I ask is that when re-building the index, I note that the idle
process never goes below 84%, and the "CPU use history' is around 8-9%. So
this implies...

Activation Key Issue by
mdw283
Hi all,
After logging on to my computer this evening, the screen said that my
activation key is invalid. I'm also getting these nagging reminders that 'I
might be a victim of software counterfeiting.'
I've owned this laptop for over a year now and had this issue come up once
before (about six months ago). I remember that some individuals on this
board suggested some fixes, but none worked...

I have been shown a video touting the Vista Calendar(not the Works or Word
Calendar) but after searching eveywhere I have given up looking. Can anyone
tell me how to find it?
This is the second program I have come across that is impossible to trace
down and am begining to believe it has to do with Service Pack 1, is that
close to the truth and if so is there a web site about the effects the...

How to back up to an internal hard drive with Vista ? by
Amoranemix
On Windows XP I used WinRAR for my backups because the OS lacked a decent
backup system. To my surprise with Vista I still use WinRAR for my backups as
that OS doesn't seem to have a decent backup system either ! (MacOS does.)
I want to backup files from internal drive C to a physically separate
internal drive D. Drive D won't show up. The help gives some 'reasons' why.
What comes closest...

Deleting a desktop shortcut by
FireDog
How do I delete a desktop icon. Windows says that it can not find the file
and will not delete it. I removed the program the way I should but it left
the shortcut on the desktop and will not let me delete or move it. I've tried
to change the properties , added sharing, and everything I can think of to
remove the shortcut with no luck.

Individualised internet shortcut icons have been replaced by generic"big-e" by
thylacine
Vista 32 - IE 7
For the past 6 months the internet shortcut icons which I have dragged
from various webpages onto my desktop have kept their unique
appearance.
Now, however, they have all reverted to the standard, generic, default
"big-e" icon - no doubt due to an accidental change of Setting.
If I drag an individualised icon directly from the Address field of an

I get the error message (after a long time): "The restore point could not be
created for the following reason: The creation of a shadow copy has timed
out. Try again this operation (0x81000101).
