Black screen after update. by
Kaim
I recenlty installed an update for Vista X64, but after the computer
restarted there was just a black screen. I can move the mouse around,
but I can't do anything else. I tried to run the system restore, but it
says my c drive contains errors and it won't work. Anyone know how to

Slow USB Transfer Rate. by
praharmitra
I am a Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit User with 2.5 GB RAM. It
was 1GB (512 + 512) originally, and I upgraded one RAM to 2GB recently
at 1.60 GHz, with 120GB Harddisk space.
I am getting very low USB Transfer speeds. I have searched for this
problem over the internet, and I haven't got a single solution that
works till now. The details are as follows.

Disk Check Hangs up at 62% by
Hooligan140
I must have scheduled a Disk check on my vista laptop. When it booted up
and performed the disk check, It keeps hanging up at 62% 5 of 5. When I
turn unit on, it prompts to hit a key to cancel disk check. Well, I can
hit ALL of the keys and it doesn't bypass check. I don't think I have
the install disc because it was a preload when I bought. Any
suggestions? Thanks...

Vista Home Premium 32 bit, SP1
I was told that it is not a good idea to update my drivers from MS Updating
Center. I have never done this since I first bought it. That's 2 years ago.
Please tell me where ? Would you give me a link to log on to ? Thank you.

Computer Boots but Vista wont Start by
solaris54
No indication of any problems before this happened. No new hardware
added.
I shutdown Vista for the night and it stayed on "system shutting down"
screen so I manually shut it down.
Now when I try to start it the computer goes through the normal boot
and goes to the first Microsoft screen but stays there for awhile and
then goes blank. I have tried to get it going numerous times but...

Vista Home Premium 64bit Stuck at Microsoft Corp. Load bar by
NateWalker
My computer was working last night and this morning when I went to turn
it on, it got stuck at the black screen with the Microsoft Corp load
bar. It goes across and across but nother ever happens. I ran registry
cleaners and whatnot, and nothing. I did some more looking and it looks
like I've lost some system files somehow. It will boot in safe mode.
SFC.exe says that there's nothing wrong when I...

Defragmentation not working by
stwstl5926
I have a rather peculiar problem.
The system I'm trying to defrag is currently 51% fragged, and, as you
can imagine, that's just much too high. I've tried defragging using both
Vista's built in defragger and the software Defraggler, but each time,
the fragmentation level goes UP by a percent or two when it's finished.
I've never encountered defrag issues on this level before. Any ideas?

I have several programs that I use but no loner have the insall disks

them.
Here's what I'm thinking:
Buy a extrenal hard drive. Seagate, 1Tbit, usb, cost $90.00.
Copy my hard drive to it.
If I need to reformat.

Interesting Observation on Vista performance? by
Gordon[_9_]
Previously, (pre-SP1) I allowed WU to do all the updating, resulting in
many individual updates being installed prior to SP1. Performance was OK,
but IE8 was a bit sluggish.
I have just re-imaged the HDD, and immediately installed SP1 from the
stand-alone installer, before launching WU. There is certainly a brisker
feel about the machine, and IE8 is definitely faster, noticeably so.
