I got a new 64 bit HP laptop about a month ago and have recently completed the second complete rebuild. System restore did not work last time. My control panel launches and is blank; then the window closes. From my start menu, I cannot access any default program settings. My printer would not install initially, but I got that online and added last week. I went to print this morning and...

Dear All: My system has a high CPU utilization. I was running on old version of XP Pro. I recently performed a bare metal install of Vista x64, and the system is still running with a high CPU utilization. I installed the latest Process Explorer (v11.33) and the highest processes listed by Context Switches, since the last reboot, are as follows:

Everything works great but I have a vista home machine that I need to configure manually in the registry to use my wsus server instead of windows update. After making the modifications the update type and time are configured...

I'm running a Dell XPS-420 with a Quad Core 2.5GHz processor and 4Gb of RAM. I've recently done a clean install of the entire system, including Vista x64 Ultimate and Office 2007. When running Word, everything gets very slow, but as soon as Word is closed the system is back to its' very responsive norm. Any suggestions? I have plenty of memory and disk space available...

Vista Black screen, only mouse at startup. Need to un/reinstall graphics driver by Mneh
I've been searching the web for a solution for a while now, and although it seems to be a somewhat common problem none of the solutions work for me. So basically I was installing new grahpics drivers from the nvidia homepage, when the screen suddenly makes like a flicker thingy and then switches to a black screen with a flashing white underscore. No problems I think and reboot. But since then...

Defragging in Vista Ultimate 64 by lawlonslawt
I may be flamed "for not using the search" on this one, but I did. I didn't scour, as I'm about to go to sleep, but I did notice the mention of Auslogics quite a few times. That's my current defragger, as the default defragger in Vista, I'd say, is pathetic. My question, though, is: Is there anything else? What is the best way to defragment Vista? I don't know if it's a juvenile idea, but in XP,...

RamBoost--testing available? by Danno[_2_]
I have read the opinions on whether RamBoost actually works or not (mostly negative). So I was wondering if there might be some site/utility/etc. that could actually measure the effect of RamBoost on a specific system. Thank you, Danno --

Audiodg.exe process slowly consuming all available memory by Sorjal
Slowly over time, when any type of audio is played (from sound effect to music), audiodg.exe continues to grow in memory used. This eventually reaches a point where I begin receiving error pop up's from windows, stating the need to close programs due to low available memory. If I close side programs (sidebar for example) the pop up return later after audiodg has taken over those freed...

How do I remove a corrupted keyboard layout and/or program? by Freewheeling
I used Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 to install a modified Arabic keyboard on my Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit machine. It was the first time I'd used the software, and I failed to specify that I wanted it installed under one of the Arabic "regions." I also didn't know that the keyboard shows up on the list under what was entered in the "layout description" and since I hadn't...

Automatic updating during sleep mode by FeeFee
I have a friend who just got a new Vista laptop and it's set up to automatically download Windows updates during a certain time of the day and we were wondering whether the updates would be downloaded if the laptop was in sleep mode? I thought I had heard that with Vista the laptop would wake up for automatic updates.

MSKB 929605 32 or 64 bit by DrTeeth
Hi, My PC has 4GB installed and the chipset only supports 4GB; so both 32 and 64 bit OSs see the same amount of memory here as per the MSKB. In that situation, with approx 3.15GB to play with, would 64 or 32 bit Vista be faster or smoother or better in any way. Not too concerned about driver comparability issues or anything else at the moment. TIA.
