Explorer.exe draining 80-95% CPU by Alteran Ancient
I'm not quite sure how to fix this one... Just today, my explorer.exe started sapping my CPU. I haven't a clue why, but it's started to stop me from doing my everyday tasks. I haven't installed anything today, but I'm just lucky I managed to guess my villa's Wireless key to get on here. From the moment I log-on, my explorer.exe goes from 50% CPU usage to about 98%. It's awful, and means that...

This is about making vista better for everyone!!! by ryan101
Hi i am writing after i have just installed the new service pack 2 for windows vista and am just trying to suggest that with the disk defragmenter, as there isnt a lot that has been changed like the only things that have been changed are that you can now select volums to defrag. one thing that may help with this is to put a small graph (or GUI) similar to the windows xp one on it and maybe a...

Windows Host Service (Rundll32) has stopped working. by Danny McCormick
I can not access my playback devices by right clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar, start World of WarCraft, access Folder Options or Playback devices from the Control Panel and a slew of other things without the error message"Windows Host Service (Rundll32) has stopped working" popping up. The program or task never starts up either. I've tried the view icons work around and that has not...

Fixing lockup/freezeups in Vista by rive0108[_19_]
I have had this problem on my Alienware system. Some pc OEM's install junk and the system is heavily fragmented. If you tweaked your registry or performed multiple installs/uninstalls this can cause corruption. Try going to event viewer following a lockup (make sure to make note of the time of lockup). For me I did 3 things that fixed the problem- 1. do a full defrag through command prompt

Physical Address Extension (PAE) does not work on vista as expected. by Sarah White
I upgraded (a so-called "clean install" on same partition... it made xp pro x64 unusable by renaming various system folders) to windows vista home basic hoping that PAE would work. I had assumed that 4GB RAM would be no problem (the intel e6600 core2duo in this system supports 64bit instructions, and as a result PAE works on linux just fine) though it is not doing what I expected. After...

Windows Vista Ultimate locks up by BRRNESE
I have been having major problems with Vista for the past 10 days. It seemed to start after 2 updates on May 13th and I spent several hours on the phone with Microsoft on May 18th and things seemed better - the remaining problem is that the system locks up after a period of inactivity - usually and hour or two. It has also locked with a backup program running and thus fails to complete the...

Systems error message by Benzmum
I just booted up and received the following message: "Systems settings protector has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have no idea what this means, but I don't like the sound of it. Late yesterday I did a clean boot on windows because I had to reinstall an mp3 player's...
