can't hide “File | Edit | Tools | Help” toolbar in Windows Explore by akita
Vista RTM version 6.0 build 6000: Since a couple of days when I open Windows Explorer I see that the traditional “File | Edit | Tools | Help” toolbar has reappeared. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of it! I’m aware that pressing the Alt tab toggles that toolbar. But toggling it has no longer any effect on it. Equally, checking/unchecking “always show menus” in Folder Options...

Microsoft Windows Vista includes a two-way firewall. TO THE TOP by I.C. Greenfields
Some of us want to choose what "gets out" and what doesn't. And this info doesn't work since there is nowhere to make such a change in the Windows Firewall window that comes up. Configure it - HOW? Can someone explain how it's configured to actually work without being a programmer writing strange unknown confusing rules for everything that wants to connect to the net? If not, can someone...

Normal Boot has fuzzy monitor; Safe Mode Reboot loop- Vista 64 by paulnatale
When I boot my Vista 64 machine, which had been working normally until 2 days ago, the login screen comes up fuzzy--that is, I can tell it is the login screen, but the image is so highly distorted as to be unusable. The image is fine during the boot process (ie, the post graphics and the green progress bar are fine) until the Vista circle pops up. When I try to boot in safe mode, the screen...

MS DTC console by Andy Webb
I had a major problem with my installation of Vista Ultimate 64 and had to use my Windows Image backup to reinstall. Since then I occasionally get an error box saying MS DTCconsole has failed, look for a solution or close the program. Needless to say a solution is never found and I close the program. Does anyone know what it is and what the solution could be? Thanks

I have Inspiron 9100 Dell notebook (several years old) with the full version of Vista. Sound cues confirm it is loading when the computer is first turned on; the screen remains black. I shut down the computer and try again. This time a prompt appears and I choose "Start Windows Normally." Vista loads in all its colorful glory and we're off to the races. Why won't Windows load normally...

Crashing problem by Brian C[_2_]
My computer has been experiencing glitches that require a hard reboot to fix. The problem seems to happen randomly, though I have only experienced it while gaming (most of what I do on that machine). This is what happens: the glitch first reveals itself by the mouse cursor looking screwy. Everything functions fine, but the actual arrow of the mouse cursor looks graphically different. Then,...

Questions on using WinDBG by RSKadish
Hi all, I am reading up on debugging minidump files, because I have been getting some blue screens and would like to diagnose them. I have downloaded Windbg, but most of the articles about how to use it seem to have been written in the WinXP days. The articles reference using C:\WINDOWS\I386 as the image path. This folder does not exist on the Vista DVD; what path should I use? Is there...
