Vista takes a unusually long amount of time to save files on the network. by jereviscious
I'm not sure if this is an microsoft office problem or a vista problem. On some files, not unusually large, it takes several seconds to save the file. (15-20 seconds or longer is not un-common) I turned file-syncing off, thinking this was the problem, but no. Windows 2000 is the server, Vista 32 bit is the workstation, Office 2007 is the application

Cannot create new primary partition - only 2 primary partitions on disk by Vistanoob
Hi, I just tried to create a new primary partition using Disk Management. I get the error "You cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains the maximum number of partitions." Ultimate goal is to create two more bootable partitions on my hard disk, one for Windows 7 and the other for Ubuntu. My C drive contains Windows Vista, my D drive has program...

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) by krasopateras
Hi there. I have a problem with my Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). The problem probably started with Chemoffice 2006 software that required .Net Framework 1.1 to work. Then, I installed the Chemoffice 2008 trial that did not required anything. After then and uninstalling the software, I noticed that the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) does not exist in the...

Windows sidebar stopped working by Qatsi[_6_]
Well I had problems with the "windows sidebar stopped working" messages appearing on a regular basis. I have only windows stock gadgets in the sidebar. A while ago I even removed one gadget at the time to see if it would stop crashing but it didn't. Yesterday I reformatted my computer because of another problem I had and one of the first things that happened was "windows sidebar...

Windows Media Player and analog copy protection error by bobg3723[_4_]
I tried to play a DVD in my HP Pavilion notebook PC through my component video output to my HDTV and an error box came up stating: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to turn on analog copy protection on the output display. Try installing an updated driver for your video card." So I selected the Web Help option which opened this site explaining the details:

Installing Vista SP2 by Paul Calcagno
I've just been offered Windows SP2 via my Windows Update manager. My history on this computer is excellent with regards to updates so I'm inclined to have this update installed. Everything regarding updates is current except for IE-8. My one reservation is that I've declined to update IE-8 in the recent past as I'm a Firefox user and I've seen all the traffic about how cloggy IE has been...

Computers shuts down suddenly by gmurphy
I bought this computer in March 2009. In April I had to send it back to the Gateway Service Center because when it started turning off by itself, the tech at Gateway told me to recover the hard drive. The computer shut off while I was doing this and needless to say, it crashed it. I got it back in late April and as of yesterday, it is doing the same thing! Their answer? RECOVER IT AGAIN! I did...

Help File Compatibility by Guilherme
I installed a software developed for previous versions of Windows (Flight Simulator 2000) in my new PC with Windows Vista. When I opened the help file I got a message saying my help file was not supported anymore and that I should get a patch so I could get it to work on Vista. I got the patch and installed it, and now I can open the help file. The problem now is that, when I opne the help,...

Problems with defragmenter by Jgiordano88
I ran a defragmenting session last night to clear up some space, and for some reason my C drive has dropped from 33.1 GB to 29.1 This has happened to me once before, but the other two recent defragments I've ran cleared up a ton of space. I honestly have no idea where the other three GBs have gone and I have not downloaded anything. I run a disk cleanup every night. Thanks for any help.

No space to backup, but no files in the D drive!! by Cassie
I've been trying to back up my laptop since I bought it last year, but the first time I did it, it said "backup failed" (I didn't look at why, just gave up) and since then, every week when it does its sad little attempt to back up, it says "last backup failed". I finally decided to give it another crack tonight, but when I looked at the D drive, it said that I only had 1.28GB free of just...

Why doesn't Vista Business CD detect the backup from my Fujitsu laptop? by Beebzz
Dear members, 12 months ago, purchased Fujitsu Lifebook S-series factory loaded with Vista business 32 bit. I do my Complete PC backups once a week to a number of USB HDD (Maxtors and Lacie). Lately, when I wanted to restore, it forced me to restore from the "recovery partition" which forced me to use the Fujitsu Recovery Discs. That's not what I wanted so I aborted.

Firewall message - Wudfhost.exe attempting outbound traffic - to IP 67.135.105.130... by DA1745
F-Secure Security suite prompted me whether I wanted to allow Wudfhost.exe to send outbound traffic to IP 67.135.105.130 - after I inserted my 16GB Corsair USB drive. Is this normal or is there something viral on it? It's been a long time since I inserted a thumb/USB drive into this Vista Ultimate system I was running AVG AV before so I've no way of knowing if this is normal for Vista. I'm...

Save or Open Dialogs cause programs to crash by sync0s
Hi. I've been experiencing this problem for a little while now and (i'm not sure if this is the right forum but please direct me the right direction if it's not) it didn't occur long after I got Windows Vista. Anyways, When ever I attempt to do File Save As or Open the dialog will pop up and then will cause the program that I did this in to hang and it will no longer respond. I have 3...

Is Task Scheduler really necessary? by GeneticFreak
It seems like it's impossible to disable the Task Scheduler service in Windows Vista. It keeps launching tasks without my permission, and constantly freezes any applications that I have open. Why did Microsoft make it incredibly easy to disable Task Scheduler in Windows XP, but not Windows Vista? I don't get it. Is there a way to completely prevent it from taking control of my PC? --...

Audiodg.exe - FIXED by HemanC
right click on the speaker icon at the bottom right. select Playback Devices highlight the icon with the green check mark click Properties click the Advanced tap uncheck Enable audio enhancements Not sure if that will lower the sound quailty but at least my lowly P4 2.66Ghz doesn't skip anymore. Now audiodg.exe run less than 5% of the CPU time.
