Poor performance with Vista x64 by
k86
Hey
I'm new to a x64 OS, I did have Home Premium (32bit) on my PC but
upgraded yesterday.
Since upgrading (clean install) I've notice that the boot times are
longer and the shut down times have increased significantly. One of the
reasons I moved to x64 was because of the faster boot and shut down
times. A few other programs are taking longer to load/respond but I'm
not sure if that's because...

0x0000007E with 3GB RAM again by
Breach
Hi Guys,
Another wasted evening... Here's the situation. Last year I did a clean
install of Vista x64 SP1 (slipstreamed). 4GB of RAM (specs below).
Everything was running great until today. Today I added a new HDD (1TB
WD Caviar Black). Power up, and... endless reboots with the dreaded
0x0000007E (at the point it tries to load crcdisk.sys). 4 hours later,
after doing whatever not it was...

Question about Startup programs... Please Help. by
Rozco
First of all I would like to say I love this forum if it wasn't for this
forum my Desktop/HDtv(as my monitor) would have a keyboard stuck in it.
Why you might ask, well I was stuck on "Updates Configuring 3 of 3 - 0%
// then Shutdown" and repeat.
Also I'm a new Vista owner and so far its been shaky but I plan on over
coming it.

Drive missing by
Dave T.[_2_]
Vista home premium SP1. . .
I created a new account, and applied a password to it. I then went to
make a password reset disk and when the wizard presented me a drop-down
list titled "create disk in this drive", I found that the cd drive was
not on the list. It appears in "Computer", but not in the wizard. Anyone
have a solution or a work-around for this?

Explorer.exe process at ~100% by
Kemper
Just in the last 72 hours I have started to have problems with my Vista
installation. Whether I start the computer in Safe Mode or regularly, the
explorer.exe process runs up my dual-core processors to 100%, or thereabouts.
The average usage for the process is about 60% - 80%. I downloaded
ProcessExplorer from the Microsoft website, and the culprit thread is
something...

Explorer - Selecting Files using CTRL key by
snomazushi[_3_]
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with 4gb memory,
When inside explorer, I can select continuous files by selecting the first
file and pressing the Shift key plus last file. However when I try to
select files using CTRL key plus files that are not next to each other, the
highlighting comes off and I am unable to select files properly.
Is this a known bug with Vista?

Resource Monitor Harddrive Usage by
NJdangerous1
Few days ago I noticed my harddrive light going crazy, when I wasnt
doing anything. So, I looked in Vista's Resource Monitor under the Disk
tab. And it was reading 1mb-100mb/sec, I did not have anything open. I
cannot recall the exact file names that were causing this, b/c I dont
know if to look at the Read or Write or Both. I do notice 1 file that
is only named by -, that is all it says for...

Problems with returning from screen saver by
amadeusmozart
When I set my computer to hibernate or it goes to screen saver, when I
return whatever window I have open (whether it be Mozilla or a Word
document) automatically closes. Not all my windows close, just the one I
have open in front of me when I return. Any clues on how to prevent this
from happening?

New tower wit vista 64 bit by
bhk
My old desktop is dying so I ordered this new HP tower to replace it. It
seems it has a Phenom x4 processor, 4GB RAM and 640GB disk. Delivery is
expected in a day or so. Re-reading the spec just now I am horrified to
discover it will be pre-loaded with a 64bit OS.
But I don't have any 64 bit applications. Use mainly MS Office, WMC,
photoshop elements, CorelDraw and a finance package. Although...

Vista "My Pictures" screensaver freezes by
Epictetus
I recently (within the last month) purchased a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop
running Vista home basic. I have not installed any programs, games, etc.
My computer randomly "freezes up" when the screensaver is running. A
picture will remain on the monitor indefinitely, with all the keys
unresponsive. I must turn the computer off when it happens, with the
resultant "Improper shutdown"...

System Restore Points - Never more than a day old by
SoxFaninVA[_2_]
I have a 320gb hard drive and 150gb free. Whenever I look at my available
restore points they are never more than 24 hours old. In XP, I always had a
list of restore points going back a month or more.
I haven't seen the same settings in Vista that allow me to change how much
storage space is allocated to restore points.
How do I get Vista to hang on to restore points older than a...
