BSOD minidump analysis by
yaro137@googlemail.com[_2_]
After a BSOD occured I've managed to get the minidump file.
Unfortunately I have no idea what should be blamed for the BSOD based
on the minidump analysis in this case. Can anyone help?

This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address
pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address

Windows 7 Public Beta by
Dave
Hi
I've looked around the communities for one that will support windows 7
Public Beta but don't see one so I would like to see if I can get some help
in this Vista community.
My question is quite basic and is with regard to the Event Viewer and
clearing the various logs contained in it.
All of the logs have a "Clear Log" option and I can clear all of these logs

Scroll, Combo-box, Drop-down Box not working by
Bilbo[_2_]
A Vista Home Premium, SP1 Compaq notebook was infected by
FunWebProducts adware and it was removed using MalwareBytes and
SuperAntiSpyware.
Prior to removal, Scroll bars didn't work, combo-boxes (like in ALL
Programs) and Drop-down boxes -- all were "unstable" or just flat
didn't work. Also, backspace key was ignored. Had to use mouse to
select text and over-type it.. The symptoms have not...

Defragmenting Question by
Mahjewski
I have read through several posts regarding defragmentation problems and
I haven't been able to locate an answer to my problem specifically, so I
figured I would try to explain and see if someone knows of a solution.
I have had my laptop for a little over a year, and I don't know if it
has ever been defragmented. I used to have it on a schedule, to defrag
once a week. I recently took that off...

Vista x64 BSOD question by
Mick[_4_]
Hello, i've put the finishing touches on a HTPC... with Vista 64. I'm
getting a BSOD... after about 5 minutes every time. Doesn't matter what
program i'm running, or if it's just doing nothing. I've run Memtest
overnight, nothing there. Updated the BIOS and every single driver. Done the
reinstall numerous times, put video cards in different slots, swapped the
RAM, formatted hard drives,...

any difference in adding 8GB RAM later by
suga81
Hello, I'm about to get a new PC and install Vista x64 on it. The
problem is that I'm only gonna get 4GB RAM now, and other 8GB later (in
a week or so).
Is there any difference between installing whole 12GB at once, or 4GB
now and adding 8GB later ...
Thanks!
P.s.: I think it shouldn't make any difference, I just want to be sure

Blue Screen of Death Revisited on Vista by
Earl
Well, I thought I had gotten rid of my BSOD, alas. Acouple of days ago I had
the BSOD come up, further down I have detailed what the screen said.
The problem now is that when I turn the computer on, it goes thru the normal
sequence, yadahyadah, then it gets to the screen where all the icons are
present on the desktop and ready for use - a couple of seconds later BSOD and
this happens all...

best free defrag tool? by
dskater411
Just as the title implies, and im sure most of you already know how
lackluster the vista defrag is. I want to see how much of an improvement
defragging is making, but vista somehow left out this important part.
I've read jfdefrag was good, but this tool is a 1 click auto go kinda
thing, and performs defragging on all hard drives. I know it has some
commandline tricks that will allow it to change...

Windows folder size by
Jason M[_3_]
I have an installation of Vista Business and the "windows" folder is about
12GB. Is this normal or is there a way to cut this down? And what in the
heck does Vista need 12GB for?
Thanks in advance!

mmci.dll corrupted by
elessart
I'm using Vista Ultimate x86. I saw a message first saying that
'mmci.dll' was corrupted at the end of setup. I've tried reinstalling
from another copy of the dvd but the issue persists (perhaps both my
dvds were corrupted?). In any case, I wish to know if I can fix this
using 'sfc' or similar tools.
For that I would need a good copy of the 'mmci.dll' file. Can anyone
please point to me how to...

Unexpected Shutdowns by
MURPHYCHACHO
Hi! I'm new to this forum and I'm currently having some problems with my
system.
I'm currently using a Dell Inspiron 1521. I've grown sick of
Hibernation mode (my computer would take seven minutes to come out of
hibernate), and I looked online for a solution. I found a website that
advised me to enter command prompt as administrator and type powercfg -H
off. I did so. Now whenever I close the...

How to delete identical user accounts on home screen? by
Young
I am the only one that accesses my computer and I am the administrator.
When I turn on my lap top I have two icons on the log on screen. Both
icons are identical (same name, same password, same picture). No matter
which one I click on I will get to the same desktop however, sometimes
depending on which one I click, I may or may not be the administrator.
How can I delete the extra one?
Please...
