I have never been able to backup this Vista PC (Dell Inspiron E1505) to DVD using Windows backup and Restore. Each attempt fails after a few minutes with an error message that reads "the parameter is incorrect Ox80070057". I have tried multiple blank DVDs and enabling and starting the Windows Shadow Copy service (a suggestion seen on this forum). Has anyone experienced this and better...

problems with video files by vccp
Good evening! I've installed Vista x64 Business a few days ago and have encountered severe problems with viewing video files as .mpeg, .avi, divx;... When I try to watch them on the 32 or 64 bit Media Player the picture stops after a few seconds and the other time the sound turns into noise. I've tried to install the Vista Codec Pack and the x64 Components codecs from http://shark007.net/

No restore options using F8 at bootup by chief123
When trying to restore the computer from a system image backup, I read where I can hit F8 at startup to "restore using the pre-installed recovery optons". Unfortunately, there is no "Repair your computer" option on the Advanced Boot Options when using F8. How do I install Vista so as to have the "pre-installed recovery options" available when using F8 at boot up?

How to show favorite in alphabetical order in IE 7 ? by Robert[_22_]
Hi all ...... I have had IE for many years now from IE 3, to IE7 with Vista. I have always used other browsers but liked IE browsers also. The biggest reason I don't like IE browsers is that the favorites are not displayed in alphabetical order! Does any one know how to do this? "Or is it just the way it is! " I usually have a ton of favorites and when I go to click on a sight I saved in...

Sleep Problems/Blue Screens - I'm SO frustrated! Please help! by Kcpirana
I'm posting this in a few places, so hopefully someone far smarter than I will run across it. I'm at my wits' end and I can't get any assistance from Microsoft or Toshiba on a two-week-old notebook! Here goes: 1) Two or three times, I've gotten a blue screen. The stop error message is pfn_list_corrupt. Vista shuts down and pretty much restarts itself normally. When the boot option menu...

Grooming Windows Vista backup by Marc Hoffman
Hi all... I'm having problems with a client running Windows Vista backup. Their external backup drive to which Vista is backing up data is filling up. Is there any way to tell Vista to "groom" the data, removing older data to keep the drive afloat? Or, is there way to have Vista completely reset the entire backup set on a regular schedule? Thank you!

Why don't animated pcs. play in Photo Gallery by Robert[_22_]
Vista Home prem. 32 bit In WinXP the animated pictures would play in what XP called Windows Picture and Fax viewer. Now Vista has what it calls Windows Photo Gallery but the animated pictures don't move, i.e. play! It displays them as a still photo. I would think its for some safety reason? lol....... If anybody knows anything about this please reply, thank you. ...Rob

Vista system restore "hog" by Robert[_22_]
Hi all, I have Vista Prem. on my new Dell Inspron 518 and a 650GB hard drive. Dell ships with a partition for Recovery, installed on the drive. I was just wondering as I checked the space used for System Restore; it showed 82GB used space with 87GB reserved space for System Restore. I read all about System Restore for Vista and this seems right, percentage wise, for the size of the...

Stopped Services making laptop unusable by George
Hello, I accidentally turned by computer off during a Vista update (when it says Do NOT turn your computer off). Now, only about half the services start, Explorer won't run, Live One Care won't start (I get a window saying it cannot start) and I can't open Control Panel . I tried a System Restore but the same problems persist. At this point I just want to get all my data off and reinstall...

Vista won't connect internet though router by cvan
Hello everyone. I just got my new pc for 2 days, and I cannot connect to the internet using my router, but it can get on the net if it is connected directly to the modem. I know there's nothing wrong with the connection and router because my old pc (5 yrs old window XP) and laptop both use the same router and have no problem at all. While the old one is connecting to the web, the new one...

Menu bar freezes by Coquidragon
Every time I log in, after a few seconds, this globe-like icon appears on my clock bar, and the bar freezes, including the menu. I can´t open anything, I can´t even change between opened software. The only thing that works is whatever program I´m running, which I can continue to use with no problem, but once I´m done, I have to signout the user to be able to turn it off. I press ctrl+alt+del, and...
