Security Still Shows Deleted Antivirus Product as Installed by
Jo
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I installed AVG antivirus and
had problems with an error message every time Vista started (this is under
PreRC1/5536). So I uninstalled AVG. It was deleted from the programs list
and no longer in the programs folder. But the Security Center didn't give me
a warning, so I checked it to see what was happening. It still had AVG listed
as...

Administator security by
Kent
I wonder if I am missing something in how the new security is designed in
Vista. When I installed Vista it asked for my logon on name and set me up as
an administator account. It asked no questions about the type of account or
if any other users were to be added. When I trigger an event that requires
admin level permissions I get the dialog box that asks for confirmation, but
no request for...

Administrator on Vista by
Spirefm
Administrator IS certainly disabled in my machine. On entering Safe Mode I
am prsented with Administrator and Username. If i select Adminstrator I get
the message 'Adminstrator is disabled....'. If in normal mode I try to create
an account named Adminstrator I am told I cannnot because an account of that
name already exists (although it doesn't appear in the Users list).

Security Center Not Working by
Anthony M
I just uninstalled a early beta of Symantecs Genesis Norton 360 from my
Windows Vista Pre-RC1 build 5536 as it wasn't working properly. Now Windows
Vistas Security center isn't turning back on, obviously it was due to the
program disabling it. The error i get when I go into Windows Vistas Security
Center is it says "The Security Center service is turned off." I click the
"Turn on now" button...

File Acess Rights by
Chriz
I recently installed Windows Vista Beta 2 on my computer to try to get an
understanding of its operation before its release. I keep an image of my
current system @ all times so it's very easy for me to revert back to XP Home.
Here is my issue. While I was using Vista, I would get alot of security
warnings about file access. It would tell me that I had no rights to certain
files and would...

Antivirus software necessary? by
Chad Harris
Thanks for this John. I couldn't make Avast work in 5536, I think if I
configured Driver Veriifier not to inspect its software drivers it
would--several people are having that problem and P-Cillin works great.
Since Vista has a decent firewall configurable with the Advanced MMC
snap-in, I didn't load the whole firewall Available in P-Cillin 14.
Appreciate this. It solved my Vista 5536 and...

How to TCP/IP filtering options for IPv4 in Vista? by
Pushkar
Hi,
I was trying to set TCP/IP filtering options through Advanced settings of
IPv4 protocol in Vista, but I found that there is no options tab available
there.
This tab was there in Windows XP. Is this setting disabled for Vista or is
it done through some other way?
I have attached the image of advanced settings tab for XP and Vista.
Apart from options Tab, Registry values that were used in XP...

Need Repros, UAC breaks Domain GPO or Logon scripts. by
John [MS]
I've been tracking an issue regarding UAC breaking logon scripts and I
need Repro's/scripts/examples. From what I've seen if you have your script
in the User/Logon GPO it pops UAC on some operations such as installing
antivirus or executing remote monitoring clients, cancelling on the UAC
prevents the domain policy from being fulfiled.
In some cases I have seen that moving these scripts to...

Trend micro by
Chad Harris
Hi Mark--
It's strange that you posted this on 8/25 and posted the exact same thing
that I answered on 8/27
A lot of us have been looking for something besides AVAST since it won't
install on Build 5536. I don't know the particulars of Trend and Vista, but
MFST is saying they have a partnership and it will work.

Anti Virus Program by
Chad Harris
I think the chances of people who can't install AVAST having a "corrupt
install of Vista" particularly if Vista is working relatively well that has
anything to do with that problem are slim and none Jason.
I have Vista 5536 working fine, and a lot of us have exp. problems on it
installing AVAST. One solution is to go to driver verifier by typing
verifier in the run box and disalbing...

Fixed hash algorithm in CertEnroll library by
Roman Sedov
Hello!
The problem is fixed hash algorithm (SHA1) used in CertEnroll library.
That's why we can't create a certificate request using our Cryptographic
Provider (CSP), that implements Russian Crypto-algorithms but not SHA1.
X509Enrollment.IX509CertificateRequestPkcs10 interface has HashAlgorithm
property that is used for signing PKCS#10. But after creating PKCS#10
CertEnroll creates...

UAC configuration ? by
Bill U
I believe that someone posted a link to some UAC configuration information
that looked useful, but I can no longer find it. Could someone please direct
me to some documentation that will help me avoid some of my current
frustration with UAC, before I turn it off for good. Thanks.
