Adding a pin after setting up bitlocker by
Tony Linguini
The instructions are not quite clear. I set up bitlocker to be sure it would
work on my system, the after reboot it automagically encrypted the disk. I
wanted to use a pin. Are there specific instructions for doing this? Thank
you.

adding DLLs to windows\system - access denied by
Wanderer
I need to add in DLLs, and the system isn't letting me. It isn't giving me
the option, it's just stopping me from putting the DLL in the file completely.
Look, it's my computer, I'm an adult, and I can take calculated risks with
my machine - I even back up first!
I want to know how to disable these "security" measures that are only
keeping me from what I want to do with the machine. ...

Additional Info - Vista and Conficker by
DRK
An earlier thread mentioned the Conficker worm, how it is affecting Vista,
and that the threat has changed. I have two symptoms of the worm - Windows
Update no longer works (when I load it goes to a blank windows explorer
screen, which I have force quit through Task Manager), and Windows Defender
no longer works. I have used multiple Conficker removal tools (BD, F Smart,
MS Removal) and none...

the Behavior of UAC prompt is set to Prompt for credentials. I'm using a
Domain Administrator account.
When accessing the Registry locally, the UAC prompt for credentials, pops up
before I can access the Registry. When connecting to the Vista registry
remotely from a non-Vista machine, are the same registry keys &...

I have two user accounts on Vista Home Pro.
One is a standard, limited user account (password protected) and the other

protected).
I am not sure when this started happening but I am unable to launch control
panel under my admin account.
I get a pop-up of "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or

Admin rights on Vista by
Andreas
1) Since I haveAdmin rights on both computers in a workgroup, why can't I
access the administrative shares? It prompts me for password, which I
provide and rejects. That used to work in previous versions. If I define my
own administrative shares (with $), it works fine.
2) The same issue applies If I attempt to remotely administer a machine. I
have no rights. What has changed with those...

Administator security by
Kent
I wonder if I am missing something in how the new security is designed in
Vista. When I installed Vista it asked for my logon on name and set me up as
an administator account. It asked no questions about the type of account or
if any other users were to be added. When I trigger an event that requires
admin level permissions I get the dialog box that asks for confirmation, but
no request for...

administrative access & initial screen by

I just bought a new computer that is running Vista Ultimate. I am the only
person using this machine and no one else had access to it. I need to know
three (3) things:
(1) How do I log in as "admin" on the machine? The initial screen that comes
up only shows my name as a user, it does not show a button for "admin" or
"administrator"?
(2) How can I verify that my user name (the only user...
