Remove windows 7 CD/DVD-ROM automatic hidden shares ? by Vilius Mockûnas
Hello, I like things to be shaded only when I want to. So I was always removing automatic shares using these instructions: "To remove administrative shares without letting Win2K recreate them every time you reboot the system, you need to edit the registry. Start regedit and go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters subkey. From the Edit menu,...

EFS - deleting temp files EFS0.tmp, EFS1.tmp, etc. by David[_42_]
Hi, I did something bad and enabled EFS on a folder, then decided to remove EFS. Windows has now left me with a number of EFS*.tmp files which I cannot now delete and they are really large. I understand what these files are, but really want to delete them and so far I haven't found a way to do this, have tried using Admin privilages and a Google search was fruitless.

Hi all, :-) we're developing software for disabled people who need to use special devices for keyboard and mouse input. these devices operate via serial port and a software, which translates the data via the serial port into SendInput(..) calls, which works pretty well now. obviously, this is not possible on the UAC-Screens to confirm and also at the Windows Loginscreen because of security...

"User Profile has failed to Load" error by Endulini
Hi, I'm getting the above error whenever I try and access my administrator account in Vista and can't get into the profile at all. Booting in Safe Mode gets me in and I'm able to see that the account has been changed to 'Backup' for some reason but I'm unable to change anything. As it's the administrator account I'm unable to set up any new profiles to try and get around it. Using System...

Login Problem by Ian Bell
I have a Vista Home premium laptop I use occasionally. I used it a couple of weeks ago and ISTR it did some updates when I logged out. I turned it on yesterday and it will no longer accept my account password. In fact it only shows bullets for the first five of the password which is seven long. The password prompt appears so I am sure I am entering the right password. I do not have caps lock...

Upgrade Path from XP/Vista to Windows 7 by Ben[_12_]
There is no direct upgrade path from XP to Windows 7 but users can use the User State Migration Tool (USMT) to migrate user data and settings. I wrote a piece about the upgrade, with an accompanying video, at: http://windows7reports.com/2010/11/09/migrate-win-xp-to-win7-using-usmt-user-state-migration-tool-pt-1/ However, what do you do if you have a site with hundreds of XP or Vista users? Is...
