Windows Defender is Corrupting Profile by Aaron Oneal
I'm having an issue that I've traced to Windows Defender. Periodically I noticed my stored network passwords were disappearing. After reviewing the event logs, I think it's occuring each time I get this message. Any suggestions (other than turn off WD)? - Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event" - System Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles Service"...

Which Internet Security Suite to get included with new computer? by Aaron[_7_]
I am ordering a new computer (Vista Home Premium 64 bit) that offers an Internet Security Suite from Norton, McAfee, or Trend Micro in the purchase price. I am seeking recommendations on which of the three to get. I am open to advice ranging from one of them being superior, to they all are inferior, to which one sucks the least, or even the one easiest to remove without hosing the system...

How many security programs to run... by abbey
I've been running McAfee, Spybot and by default, Windows defender and ran into a problem last week when I downloaded something questionable. I'm not sure if it did anything because various scans by the above mentioned programs have not turned anything up but I'm concerned. I ran some of the free checks available from different sources and each time, each one finds some new threat, and each...

trojans by Abby
I just picked up a Trojan somewhere. Window's Defender removed it. Now I'm wondering what I did wrong. A week or so ago, I got a pop-up claiming that I had no virus protection and saying that "they" were going to do a scan. I DO have virus protection (McAfee), so I knew this wasn't legit. I had a hard time shutting it down, but I did. I did three scans in Safe mode (McAfee, Defender...

There is a serious bug found in Windows Vista Ultimate, which allow the user to login in to Window Vista System without providing any credential. Permissions issue by abinkow
I have a program that installs as a subfolder of the Program Files (x86) folder. Inside the main folder of the application is a file, SpecDat.xxx. The application, when run, needs to change this file. If I run this application from an administrator account, it comes back with a Error '53': File Not Found error. After some extended debugging by both me and the author, we discovered it...

.net 1.1 EXE in startup folder on VISTA by AC
Our application installs a .NET 1.1 EXE created with VB.NET into the startup folder on the PC. This works perfectly on Win98SE and XP. If the User Access Control is OFF on Vista, it also works perfectly there. However, if the UAC is on, the program is BLOCKED. I tried to build a manifest file.... assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0" asmv3:trustInfo...

Right now only standard users can have controls on them, but this limits them to control their pc as an adminitrator. I just did a clean install of RC1 on a Tablet PC (Toshiba Tecra M4) and I'm still encountering the problem described below. The system seems to awaken, but nothing shows up on the monitor. I have to do a hard restart to see anything at all. Mark ------------ "Jimmy Brush" wrote:

Hiding a folder for standard users only...is this possible? by Acher
I have 4 accounts made - 1 Admin and 3 Standard/Limited User. They all use the data drive on D: but there are a few folders in there that I don't want the 3 standard users to see that it's in there. Is there a way of getting rid of the folders in their view (without manually hiding them because we actually need the show-hidden-files option to be on)?? Was hoping there may be an...
