AniaP
I wrote dll-file which attach new menu to system menu (shell extension).
I used Api function like (InsertMenuItem,QueryContextMenu).
Dll was created in .net 2.0 (C#)
In Windows xp all works good.
In Windows Vista, when user Account Control is enabled evrything works ok.
When UAC is disabled our dll doesn't work. Menu doesn't appear.
Sorry for my Englisch.

Constant stream of UDP packets from same four addresses... by
The Traveller
I need some help with the following...
My router has been blocking a steady stream of UDP packets from the
same four IP addresses. This has been going on for several days now.
Here is an extract from the router's log. This same sequence repeats
itself "ad infinitum" ;-)
Sun Apr 20 15:25:11 2008 Blocked incoming UDP packet from
207.118.109.219:50197 to 76.xxx.xxx.xxx:38043

writeraj
I dont see a good clarity or t the point answer to the problem.
Vista has some really **** kind of user prompt and disabling the
services / commands in the name of security. So it does.
To avoid this dll / COM registration problem,

shortcut. Click on Run as Administrator.

Why isn't UAC more fine grained? by
HotmailUser
When UAC kicks in for some reason, you can optionally choose to view more
details where that dialog displays what looks like a long hexadecimal string
- I haven't confirmed whether it is valid hexadecimal. The point is, its
probably some kind of ID for that particular instance of UAC kicking in.
Why isn't that string selectable so that it can be copied to the clipboard?
Is that string stored...

Windows Update Won't Display Text by
panicaddiction
I just upgraded my laptop from XP to Vista to find that every time I
open Windows Update. I get the images, but no text, and none of the
buttons work either. Anything that is Windows Update related behaves
like this. My laptop is clean of all viruses and such, so I don't know
what it would be. I've restarted my laptop a few times and the same
thing keeps happening. Here's some screenshots on what...

Vista Home UAC prevents installation of programs/Elevation dialog not shown by
Anthony Wieser
I've had a customer have problems installing our program RIP Vinyl
(www.ripvinyl.com) on his Vista Home system, but haven't had this from any
of our other users.
This customer reports that our installer (a wrapper that runs msiexec) gives
the error return 1625 which translates as ERROR_INSTALL_PACKAGE_REJECTED
As it's not possible (so far as I know) to set a security policy under Vista...

Start an interactive process under Local Syste by
Ondrej Sevecek
Hello,
with XP/2003 and older systems, I was able to run an application under a
local system account using for task scheduler, for example:
at 10:00 /INTERACTIVE cmd.exe
but this is not available with Vista/2008. Is there any other method, how to
start an interactive (visible) process under System credentials?

IE7 with Vista blocking my download of music samples by
B
Hello,
I cannot open and listen to music samples. A message window appears and
disappears before I could read what it says, and even when I click on "open
in new window" the window shuts down in one second without opening the
content.
I have already set the security settings to allow or ask before allowing
just about everything, accepted pop-ups, switched off the secure mode,
checked...

Bitlocker and System Drive Failure by
Quilnux
Afternoon/evening. I am getting ready to implement bitlocker on both my
system drive and 2 other volumes. I have a concern before continuing.
In the event that I would ever have a hard drive failure (hopefully not for
a very long time) and I had to reload the OS on a new hard drive, would there
be a way for me to recover the data from the other 2 volumes on the other
physical drive once the...

Blocking executables from certain drives/paths. by
aptgetmoo
Hello.
I've just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium installed. I used to
create policies on my old laptop(XP Pro) using gpedit.msc to block all *.exe
files from running except of those in C: partition(my Windows partition). I
did this to prevent me(or whoever using my laptop) from accidentally run
viruses from usb drives, well there is no need for me to run *.exe files from
there...
