operaflute
Okay, I was forced to buy a new computer two days ago (my old XP Pro Dell is
dead - so sad...)
Anyway I'm a new Vista user and still setting up the new machine (HP
Pavilion dv2911us) to my preferences and I have already encountered a
problem. Starting yesterday, Vista no longer asks me for a password when I
wake the computer up from hibernation. Then it wouldn't boot at all. I did

Logon failure-unknown username or bad password by
Upittgrad
I cannot logon to my Admin account after typing the correct password. I try
to do a system restore through my guest account, but when I go to system
restore, the admin account pops up and asks for the password. I try to
reboot in safe mode, but I'm not able to do that either. If anyone has had
the same problem, and found a solution, please post it here. Thanks.

How to make a standard profile w/ Default User by
Michelle
I am trying to determine how to make a default user profile in Vista like we
could do in XP.
After reading several posts, I have found where we can copy the profiles
over but most mention another step in the registery and one person stated
this was not a good idea.
Can someone spell out how to completely set up a default user profile after
we have it setup as the administrator account?

Changing Icons in Vista.. by
Ted Gervais
I notice that when I try and change an icon to something better than just
the Windows version of what it thinks an icon should have for a picture,
that I can't make the change. I click on a new picture and save it, and no
sir.... that windows picture remains.
Whats there fix for this, if there is one...??

Can't delete files.... constant permission popups! by
news.microsoft.com[_9_]
I posted this on several Vista groups in desperation. I can't get control
of my own computer although I'm the only user. I can't understand the
complicated directions given to OWN my own PC so I can delete unwanted files
downloaded to it in error from a backup external drive.
I'm the admin and only user on my Vista comp and can't delete old files I no
longer want. How do I delete these...

New users cannot connect to terminal services from a Vista compute by
Venu Mandadi
Hi,
We have several users connecting to our Windows 2008 Terminal Services
servers via remote desktop. Most users connect from remote offices or their
home computers. When we create a new login for these remote users, we select
the option "User must change password at next logon". This worked fine when
users were connecting from Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers. They would
be prompted...

Inheriting a password locked computer -- what to do? by
LSordo
A cousin passed away in July. I have inherited her Acer laptop. My problem
is that it is password-protected upon sign in.
I've seen people talking about signing in as an admin and the like, but I
can't get past the opening password screen.
Is there anything I can do to access this computer?
Thanks if you can help.

Configure advanced user profile properties... by
azulyn
Under User Account control panel (windows vista home premium version)
there are two choices that are for some reason disabled - *Configure
advanced user profile properties *and *Change my enviornment variable*.
I am the account administrator, and not logged onto a limited account. I
also have a second issue that may or may not be related.
When I right click a folder, then go to properties, then...

Rename user profile by
Judy G[_2_]
My new laptop failed to reboot after the local IT guy unsuccessfully tried to
install a printer driver. I had a Microsoft agent reinstall Windows Vista.
He also managed to save my data, but now the computer refers to everything as
Noname. I renamed the user account, but that didn't change the profile name.
I added a new administrator account to get around the problem of not being
able to...

Backup and Restore Center: Error Restoring (0x8100001A) by
Keith M Ellis
I am unable to restore files backed-up via Backup and Restore Center, "Backup
Files". I backed up all possible files from my old Vista installation (not
knowing it wouldn't include executables--there goes all my archived setup
files for purchases programs, but that's another story) to an external USB
hard drive. The files were verified at backup.
I was able to restore these files to a new...

Parental Controls - "rating service unavailable" by
Castor
Hi all
I’m having a problem with the Parental Controls in Vista blocking all
websites on my kids accounts.
Every time they try to go to a website (such as www.amazon.com), IE7 or FF
wait for ages and then comes back with a standard Parental Control Blocked
screen; but with “rating service unavailable” as the reason for the block.
What is going on?

Standard users is immediately logged off by

I have Vista Premium on my kids' PC, and everything has been fine for 6
months+.
Suddenly yesterday, around the time that the SP1 update got installed, my
kids (who have standard user accounts) can't log in anymore. From the login
page, they see the "Welcome" page, which immediately goes to the "Logging
off" page, and then back to the login page.
I searched for this, and found another thread...
