How to trace Roaming Profile load/unload (userenv.log) by
George Steiger
Hi
Is there someone who knowns how to trace the profile load/unload process on
Vista. On W2K and XP to trace those problems i always used
userenv.log to see what happens. To turn on verbose logging,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\UserEnvDebugLevel can be set to 10002 (Hex).
Now in Vista, Userenv.log does not exist anymore and i was unable to
find a...

Permissions to install a program by
Frank
I am trying to install an update to my Adobe Acrobat 6 standard, bringing it
up to 8.0, which is Vista compatible. I have moved my 6.0 from my old
computer to my new Vista computer. I have followed the instructions of
several commenters on this site, changing ownership & permissions of folders
to no avail. I continue to get the same error message; "A problem occurred

User Accounts window opens when clicking on the Start button by
Confused User
I have been using Vista for about 3 months now. I have the task bar located
on the right hand side of my screen. Within the last few weeks every time
that I click on the Start button, the User Accounts window will open. This
just started within the last few weeks.
I know that if I put the task bar back to the bottom of the screen this does
not happen. When the task bar is located on the...

Being able to save by
Joe Morgan
Is there any possible way to save my work? I started a program, worked for
about 2 hours, and vista won't save... most likely because, though I am the
sole owner and user of this machine, I am still not always "the
administrator". I just spent two or so hours working on something I most
likely cannot duplicate... and vista won't let me save.
Is there any possible way to override this and...

Logon screen has my picture twice by
Nicos Antoniou
I have a lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with Vista Home Basic preinstalled. I don't
know what happened, but when the logon screen appears it shows my user icon
twice. There is only one user account.
Furthermore, if I create another user, the icon of that user then also
appears twice, thus having a total of 4 user icons on the logon screen. This
repeats for any additional user....
Any idea on what is...

finger printing by
NobleTrader@gmail.com
Hi: all:
I_Was thinking about the finger printing technology. I was thinking
that some entrepreneur should be able to form a fake finger that would
allow an imposter to hack into someone's computer. Here is how it
would work: Y0U lift someone's fingerprint from something that the
person has touched. The company then forms a Rubber finger based on
the lifted print. Now w/ this fake finger, you...

Windows XP License by
mistercrisp
If I buy a builder's edition of Win XP, or the Home version of Win XP
(because I have read that in 6 months or so Win XP will not be sold any
longer) will I still be able to activate my copy (or copies) in 9 months or a
year, or so, when I go to install it for the first time?

Programs load twice from startup folder by
Mark Hall[_2_]
Why would two copies of a program launch when there is only one shortcut in
the All Users startup folder?
Also, why wouldn't programs launch when their shortcuts are are in the
user's personal startup folder?
Thanks.

Administrator password by
Trevib
I have upgraded to Vista premium from Xp without a password on my admin
username. I now wish to put a password on this user but have been warned that
EFS-encrypted files, personal certificates and stored passwords for web sites
will cause problems. Are any Vista system files in this category? I do not
want to put a password on and then find I have problems with the system.
