Disabling Password Reset Disks by
moose
I'm running Vista Home Premium, in case you need to know. :P
I have a brother who is freaking dangerous. Whenever he gets on the computer
he downloads malicious programs that infect the computer, and he's smart
enough to get past what little security there is for someone on an
administrator account.
I've tried to keep him out but he always finds a way on my computer -
usually because one of...

Overriding a password? by
ashleigh.hudson
I recently bought a new LG Laptop that has Windows Vista ome Basic on it. I
recently changed my password, and now my computer won't let me on...it says
the only way to reset my password is with a password reset disk, which I
don't have. I've tried my old password, I've tried the new one with caps on,
mispellings....everything. Is there any other way to get into my computer? To
make matters...

Recovery Drive D: by
LordAmeth
My new laptop (running Vista Home Basic) came with a HD partition - 40GB for
"OS C:/" and 10GB for "Recovery D:/". I am looking to make the best use of
this space, but cannot seem to find any way to give myself equivalent
permissions on D: as I have on C:. It seems hardwired into Vista to have
Windows Defender protect D: from alteration w/o that extra step of
confirmation. I can move files...

Removing MS-Adware from Vista Business by
Reid
Vista came loaded with adware. The most annoying one is the pop up that trys
to sell AOL and other Internet services. It contunually pops up and demands
that we deal with it or tell it not to appear again. We tell it not to
appear again and 20 minutes later it pops up again requiring attention. I
looked for it in program files, in the control panel software list and in the
startup files...

"Access is denied" to harmless stuff (but I can see hidden files)! by
Angelique
Weirdest Vista thing yet: I am the only user and the administrator. I can
access all parts of my computer (I think) EXCEPT:
/local settings
/my music
/my pictures
/my videos
These folders are currently empty (I assume. I haven't used them) I can
create and folders and look at everything else on the computer. I just
discovered that "access is deined" (with no other explanation) by accident.

Cant Delete Backup Folder by
Speedy
My computer crashed a few days ago, and Windows made a backup of all my old
files. The backup is quite large, and I dont need anything in it, yet I
cannot delete the folder. Ive determined the problem is that all the files do
not allow the Administators to modify or delete anything. If I change the
ownership and permissions on a folder, it only effects the folder itself, any
files and...

Norbster
Hello,
I tried the XP registry edit to remove the Administrator account from the
Welcome screen, which worked great. The only problem is now when a user needs
to have their credentials escalated to Admin rights the Administrator account
is absent from the UAC box. There is also no option to select a user...
Does anyone know a work around for this? I want the person using this laptop

Hello-
I am using Vista Home Premium. At the User Login Screen, where I have 3
accounts set up, when I selevt my admin account (or any account for that
matter) the login fails. Windows fails to ask for a password, the mouse shows
the "loading" animation "donut" and acts if it is going to load. Then, the
screen turns blank, showing the background of the Vista login screen only,

Cannot locate files saved automatically by some programs by
José Batista
I have Vista Ultimate in portuguese. My file structure is in portuguese, e.g.
"Programs" is "Programas", "Documents" is "Documentos", and so on. To
ilustrate my problem, I am going to describe the incident I just experienced
working with EndNotes, a bibliography program. EndNotes marked a data file as
corrupted, and asked me to run the recovery process ( which is simply to use
the Tools/...

Password not recognized when using two keyboards by
Larry F
I am running Vista Home Premium on a new Gateway laptop. I set up my password
usiing the laptop keyboard and things went well.
Then I added an external, full sized USB keyboard.
Now when I enter my password on the laptop keyboard it is rejected, but it
works if I enter it on the external keyboard.
I take my laptop to a second home where I plan to buy another external
keyboard. I am afraid I...

"Destination Folder Acess Denied" by
Andrew M
Hello,
For some reason when I go to delete some files it won't allow me to even
thought my account is the only account on the computer and is set up as the
admin account. It says I need "permission" to preform this action. Who do I
need permission from Microsoft? Or maybe the creator of the file doesn't like
the idea of me deleting the file off my computer... this has gone on for far
to...

Microsoft is worthless by
My Monkey Butt
Microsoft products and especially Vista are the worst programs I have ever
seen in my entire life and if I hadn't just spent $1200 on this computer I
would go out and by a Mac right now. Microsoft tech support is also a load of
worse manuer. I bought their sorry program and now I have to pay for their
support. Bill is worthless human being and it will be nice to see MS burn in
the pits of...

VISTA by
riskman
In general, I'm about ready to format my new computer's hard drive and
install XP Professional and just get rid of Vista. I'm a mobile professional
and can't afford to buy two of everything I need on my desktop and laptop.
It's unclear to me if Microsoft has "helped" the computing world beyond
making things so secure as to be nearly unuseable.

UAC can not elevate by
SimonW
Hello
I am unable to perform any Administrative tasks becasue my only true
Administrator was previously hidden from the Welcome Screen and remains so
after upgrading from XP to Vista Home Premium.
When I attempt to run regedt32.exe As Administrator my UAC dialogue appears
but there is no password box, and so am unable to elevate.
I know this is a hot issue. Does anyone have a route thru'...
