desktop lost, get kind of default desktop by
JustMe
We installed Vista business over an existing XP pro. At first everything went
well, the desktop was exactly like it was before the upgrade, but now all we
get is some kind of default desktop.
I also played around with the gadgets on the right, but after restarting the
computer these also got restored to the 'default'. It seems whatever we do,
we can only get that default desktop.
Anyone any...

I have purchased 3 new computers all with Vista Business installed. We run a
Oracle based application. When I attempt to run the application, once I enter
my login information (for Oracle) I get an access denied message. I am
assuming this is related to some sort of security issue, but I have logged on
as Administrator for the domain, tried different users that I have put in the

Vista Upgrade Advisor tool should warn Adminpacks are incompatable by
J.T. Moore
The Vista Upgrade Advisor tool should be enhanced to notify that user that
the Windows 2003 Admin Pack is not compatable with Vista and require that it
be removed before upgrading. The same goes for the Exchange 2003 System
Manager and the XP version on the IIS6 Manager. Its an even bigger problem
for Exchange System Manager and IIS6 Manager because it not even possible to
uninstall the...

Vista adm template for AD? by
Scott Townsend
I was at a Launch event recently and asked one of the presenters about an
issue I'm having with Vista. They said I need to install the Admin Template
in Active Directory, though sounded more like a Group Policy template.
One of the options in there was something about how the Win2003 Server keeps
track of the Vista machines relating to the clock and it being sync'd with
the DC.
Anyone know...

Bug with Vista Network Password Management? by
Yaz
I just upgraded from XP to Vista and for the most part everything is okay.
However, I believe the Manage Network Passwords capability has changed.
I have a company exchange server that I connect through via an exchange
proxy using Microsoft Anywhere, but I am off-site and need to go through a
seperate corporate proxy just to be able to access the exchange proxy. In
XP, I had the domain...

Graet site but!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by
alexanderd
lots of questions, lots of great replies, great support from MVP ect, and
lots of websites for me to visit and learn.
having trawled through 12 pages of discusions i wonder if the group should
be split into 3 or more sub folders, ie admininistration / Perogatives /
passwords.
why you may ask, i find the site a great help in the learning curve as will
many others.

System Administrator vs. Application Administrator by
Dave R.
There seem to be a lot of posts about UAC, proper system administration
practices, programming practices, etc., but I haven't yet seen a good
answer to how best to implement a setup where an application
administrator is not the system administrator.
To use an example from another thread, the FamilyAddress program. Mom,
Dad, Billy and Tammy all use the application under their own Limited...

Change default user by
Lee Beck
When I boot my computer it automatically goes to the "Administrator" account.
I can "change user" to the account that I use but it's a minor annoyance.
How do I get the computer to boot into the account that I always use?
Thanks
