Password access problem by Jezza
My brother has been in hospital for nine months after brain surgery and now that he is convalesing in a nursing home we have taken his PC in for him to use. The problem is that it will no longer recognise his password and he cannot log on. No one has changed it so we don't know what else to do. We can't get into anything. My daughter who is the 'techy' in the family is trying everything she...

After I activated the guest account i logged off to see if the account worked. sure enough, it did, however when i tried to log in again as the administrator i recieve a message that the password is incorrect even though...

Explorer problems after adding new user by TimFawcett
Hi - getting a strange set of problems after adding a new user in Vista Home Premium. Have been using Vista for nearly a year now with no major problems. Only one user on the box, the admin account created when setting up Vista. Tried to use the user migration wizard to transfer an account & settings from an old XP machine. Wizard ran OK but when logged on to Vista as the new user...

Unable to login to Vista except by going to last known good config by KML
I am not able to log onto Vista without going thru the whole f11 and then f8 menu and finally getting to the last known good configuration. I've tried going back to a restore point, and turning off auto updates, but it keeps going back to old config; error message reads group policy/unable to logon. I do not have a password at this point; full admin rights and only user. Please help!!

Users sharing desktop icons by loafaries
My computer is the family one, with two different user accounts. I use programs that the other user never touches, and vice versa. When I delete a shorcut icon on my desktop, it dissapears from the other user's as well, when I add one, ect ect.... Is there a way to stop this "desktop sharing"? We're both set to administator, and I'd like to keep it that way.

ANS: "What's the deal with UAC (Windows Needs Your Permission scre by Ernst
Exellent explanation Jimmy. Thank You. I now, after months of using Vista and hours of searching the net, understand the basic reasoning behind all my suffering. It makes a lot of sense and I will definitely make myself a seperate user account for daily use. Having said this I do not believe Microsoft is going to get the everage Joe to go through such a steep learning curve. Also, giving a...

I can't add a new user account by DigitalD2008
I'm running Vista Home Premium, and I'm the sole user, so my account is administrator. When I go to user accounts to manage another user account to add, nothing happens. No error message, no bottlenecking mouse circle, nothing. Can anyone help. I just want to add a new standard user. Thanks.

Moving your Documents to a different location by mitchh
After much searching and reading everything in here, i finally searched outside and found the answer. Short version: 1) Click 'Start' 2) On the right hand side of the 'Start' display you'll see 'Documents' 3) Right click on documents 4) Left click on 'Properties' 5) Select the 'Location' tab 6) Follow the directions (The 'Move' button only takes you to find a 'Target' folder.

Account locked by bc
when I turn my laptop on (wake) from hibernation I now have to click on my icon/account because it says it is locked. After clicking on the icon/account it goes to the desktop. The "does not need password" has been checked under the password option so that is not the issue. I did not have to do this until a Vista upgrade was installed now I have to do it all the time. How can this be...

master password by John[_43_]
Hello. I don't know a lot about computers, so please forgive me. A family member just got a laptop with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. I want to put a password on it so that only family members can use it. That is, if she accidently leaves it somewhere, I don't want somebody to be able to turn it on and access all out files. Is there a way to do this on Vista? I don't want...

Locked out of account - Please help :( by dsvgsdabfdhn
Hi. This is rather frustrating actually. When i went on vacation I had no password for my administrator account, but when I came back someone had put a password on the account. So now I can't get into my admin account on Windows Vista because I do not know the password. I do not have a recovery disk with the password on it, and I do not have a Vista installation DVD. I've searched for...

View website history by Rachel
I understand that Vista provides views of account activity through the use of Parental Controls, but what if my roomate continually deletes the browsing history and cookies after he uses the computer? I have tried looking at the activity report, but it is blank. Any suggestions?
