I own a dell laptop and I am the administrator of the computer. I
thought it might be a good idea to also make a guest account for family
or friends that don't know my password. After I activated the guest
account i logged off to see if the account worked. sure enough, it did,
however when i tried to log in again as the administrator i recieve a

I am the only user of a PC with Vista Premium Home. I therefore did not
install any account except the administrator's, as I have no need of a

Anyway I am often stopped buy a message " You do not have the permission to

Unable to login to Vista except by going to last known good config by
KML
I am not able to log onto Vista without going thru the whole f11 and then f8
menu and finally getting to the last known good configuration.
I've tried going back to a restore point, and turning off auto updates, but
it keeps going back to old config; error message reads group policy/unable to
logon. I do not have a password at this point; full admin rights and only
user.
Please help!!

Users sharing desktop icons by
loafaries
My computer is the family one, with two different user accounts. I use
programs that the other user never touches, and vice versa. When I delete a
shorcut icon on my desktop, it dissapears from the other user's as well, when
I add one, ect ect.... Is there a way to stop this "desktop sharing"? We're
both set to administator, and I'd like to keep it that way.

ANS: "What's the deal with UAC (Windows Needs Your Permission scre by
Ernst
Exellent explanation Jimmy. Thank You. I now, after months of using Vista and
hours of searching the net, understand the basic reasoning behind all my
suffering. It makes a lot of sense and I will definitely make myself a
seperate user account for daily use. Having said this I do not believe
Microsoft is going to get the everage Joe to go through such a steep learning
curve. Also, giving a...

I'm running Vista Home Premium, and I'm the sole user, so my account is
administrator. When I go to user accounts to manage another user account to
add, nothing happens. No error message, no bottlenecking mouse circle,
nothing. Can anyone help. I just want to add a new standard user. Thanks.

Moving your Documents to a different location by
mitchh
After much searching and reading everything in here, i finally searched
outside and found the answer.
Short version:
1) Click 'Start'
2) On the right hand side of the 'Start' display you'll see 'Documents'
3) Right click on documents
4) Left click on 'Properties'
5) Select the 'Location' tab
6) Follow the directions
(The 'Move' button only takes you to find a 'Target' folder.

when I turn my laptop on (wake) from hibernation I now have to click on my

to do this until a Vista upgrade was installed now I have to do it all the

Hello. I don't know a lot about computers, so please forgive me.
A family member just got a laptop with the Windows Vista Home Premium
operating system. I want to put a password on it so that only family members
can use it. That is, if she accidently leaves it somewhere, I don't want
somebody to be able to turn it on and access all out files. Is there a way

Locked out of account - Please help :( by

Hi. This is rather frustrating actually. When i went on vacation I had no
password for my administrator account, but when I came back someone had put a
password on the account.
So now I can't get into my admin account on Windows Vista because I do not
know the password.
I do not have a recovery disk with the password on it, and I do not have a
Vista installation DVD. I've searched for...
