"Check your user account settings" by
Barrie
In order to get rid of the irritating check window that comes up so often, on
a single-user machine I have eliminated my user account, just staying as the
administrator. That works fine but now I get a window opening at every
startup saying "Check your User Account Settings." One irritation has been
replaced by another. Can I get rid of this new one?

How to allow someone to access my computer with their own username by
Smithy963
Hi,
I'm using a laptop, running windows vista. A friend and I often share files
between us and when connecting to my computer via network he uses my username
and password to connect and take the files I have shared.
Ideally I would like him to click on my computer in the network then
automatically view my files under his own account name, or at least be able
to type in his own username and...

Task Scheduler message display by
Avery Tom Deacon Harry[_2_]
I put this question in the wrong discussion group by mistake, so here it is
again, in the right one.
I can get Task Scheduler to display a message. However, if I am actually
USING
the pc when it is time for the reminder to activate then the message gets
shunted to the back of the screen, and is "displayed" UNDERNEATH the open
windows.
In other words the reminder is NOT displayed, it's...

Windows Live ID problem by
johnthebaptist
Office Standard 2007 on Vista Home Basic.
I want to publish my User2 calendar to my User3 calendar, but can't get past
the Windows Live ID sign in either for User2 or User3. I've correctly
updated my User2 password, but it doesn't help. Neither does working it
backward from User3 to User2 using my new User2 password.
Can you reply to both my User2 and User3 addresses?

User Folder Hidden by
[email protected]
This morning I brought my PC out of Sleep mode to find that when I logged in
all my settings and files where gone.
When I opened Explorer to the C:\Users folder I couldn't see my User folder.
After logging out and logging in on the Administrator user I found that the
User Folder for my user had become a 'protected system folder'.
I tried using the DOS command 'ATTRIB' to remove the Hide...

Main account is guest account by mistake by
Lane
Somehow my primary account name Owner got switched to a guest account. This
means that I can't run certain software, can't get to Windows Update and do a
host of other things. I have tried in vain to switch my account to
administrator or even to a standard user but can't. The account says
Administrator but really it's a guest account. To do anything I have to
switch to another account...

Student Activation by

I have two computers with Vista that I got from a program that Microsoft runs
giving students free access to the OS. Now it says all of a sudden that I
need to re-activate on both my laptop and my desktop. Did something expire
since they are both through the schools program (I don't know if that is why
its free or something) or is it a coincidence that they both are needed to be
activated at...

Can't change a guest account by
Lane
I'm running Vista SP 1. I have an account called 'owner' that was created at
some point early on when I got the machine. It is my primary user account.
I have recently found out that the account is a 'guest' account and not a
'standard' or 'administrator' account like I thought. Therefore, I can't run
certain programs or even Windows Update under this account. Can anyone tell
me how to...

Well, I bought windows vista home premium sp1 last week. Yesterday it
crashed and I had to reinstall it from the disc.
When I originally installed it, plugged in the Product Key to get it
activiated.
Now, since I had to reinstall it, the activation code is no longer valid.
I phoned Microsoft and was transferred to four different representatives,
three from India and I must say, they were...
