Permissions
When I installed Vista Business I installed MS Office and a couple other
applications without problems.
I’m on a domain, an administrator on the domain; my domain user profile is
an administrator on the local PC.
I loaded Photoshop CS2, some OCR scanning software, among others, activated
and registered via the internet. Now every time I open Photoshop and others I
get the...

Lost control over UAC by
richard
I can neither enable nor disable UAC.
Vista Home Premium SP1 - single user – Administrator account.
In the Control panel applet, the UAC check box is unchecked and I can’t
alter that by checking it (I can check it, but it doesn’t stay checked).
Security Center says that UAC is enabled and I get the normal permission
prompts.
But, IE7 runs in “Protected Mode: Off” even though...

Muad' Dib
Our network has an Account lockout policy of 6 incorrect tries before
the account is locked out. I have two machines I use on the network.
One a box that I dual boot between XP (Primary) and vista ultimate(-
I'm evaluating), the second an XP SP2 box that I use to connect to
remote database via Remote Desktop. In addition to the account lockout
policy, all of our machines will automatically lock...

UAC doesn't give me a continue button - can't do anything as admin by
Chipwich00
I'm trying to get updates to a gaming program on my computer. The Vista UAC
pops up and tells me that a program needs my permission to continue, but the
dialogue box doesn't give me a continue button with which to continue. This
also happens when I try to manage another account or turn the UAC on or off
as well as some other administrative functions. This User Account is the
only one on...

only 1 Account works properly by
Telcado
There are 4 accounts on my computer. Mine, 2 family members, and the guest
account. When I log in everything runs like it should. But when others log
in, it shows the welcome screen, fades out, then shows a black screen with a
cursor. I have removed their accounts and made new ones, but they don't work
either.
Any Suggestions?

Change computer name == messed up task scheduler! by
Mike B
I recently changed my computer name, and have since found that all the
scheduled tasks I set up have been messed up. Each task has the account to
use, and within this is the old computer name.
I'm surprised Vista didn't update things like this when the name was
changed, but anyhow.
To make matters worse, the scheduler complains about "the specified account
is not valid" for a whole bunch...

Guest Account in Vista Premium by
Kelvin[_2_]
I managed to change the Guest account to administrator type. Tried to amend
the type back to standard user with other administrator accounts without
success. Even tried the hidden administrator account.
The Guest account does allow the standard user option to be selected but
nothing happens when this is applied, it remains as an Administrator.
Anyone have any idea how to reset the Guest...

Uneeded services by
Sam
Is there a good source of documentation somewhere on what window services I
can safely disable. I believe that there are approximately 80 windows
services starting up on my Vista PC. I know I do not need all of these. It
would be nice if there was documentation showing a brief description of each
service and why you need this service running and if you can safely disable
it. Anyone have...
