File Icons in Widows Vista by
- R2D2 -
Hi all ...
Did not see a post on this on a quick scan of the newsgroup, but was
wondering if there is away to change the file icon in Windows Explorer under
Vista. From what I have seen in some blogs and different sites, it might
require a hack of the registry. I was wondering if there was a 'cleaner' way
of modifying a file icon to make it easier to distinguish between different
files (of...

compatibility files problem by
-= Cross =-
I do a lot of modding of programs and games and everytime I create or
save things in vista x64 sp1 it never goes into the folder I tell it to
instead theirs this "compatibility files" thing in the top on the
explorer bar where thing are put. I then have to cut and paste them out
of there to make anything work. Is there a way to turn this feature off?
It's driving me nuts!

Copying Large Files Over The Network....Extreamly SLOW by
-Draino-
I am experiencing incredibly poor performance when copying and moving
files, and yes, even calculating the time to move the files takes just as
long as actually moving the damn files! As this is one of the most basic
features of an OS, you'd think they would ensured it would work correctly.
Seems they've spent more time making things look pretty than actually making
sure the basics...

My Labtop Won't Recognize Any Discs by
/AW/
I have a Satellite A305-S6843 Labtop. Wheneve I put in a CD it doesnt show up
in the Computer file, as in I can't see it as a file like on my real PC at
home. So, the only CDs that I can use are ones that startup by themselves,
and not even all of those work. So I'm wondering how do I open files on these
CDs or play the games on these CDs , or even just be able to see them on my
Labtop.

Vista Explorer Copy by
1%'er
Who was the genius at MS to skip the file name when copying a file?
Just look at this screen shot:
It's got everything EXCEPT THE FRICKIN' FILE NAME!!?!?!?!!?
Why must I keep banging my head against the wall? Why does Vista have to HIDE everything? Why does it treat me like an idiot and protect my every mouse click? I have to click 5 times more now than on XP. Wasn't one of Ballmer's goals...

Is it possible to re-arrange order of photo files in Vista Photo gallery?? by
1206nick[_3_]
Hello, can anyone help?
Is it possible when viewing photos in Vista photo gallery to display my
picture files in an order other than by name, date taken or file size
etc.. ie the options offered under 'the sort by' feature.
I would like to customise each folder to display the photos in an order
of my choosing but this does not appear possible for the photo gallery
in vista or the live photo...

Won't Move folders by
13owman
When I try to move a folder from 1 drive to another Vista will move the
files and make new folders in the designated spot I put them but the
folders that I move from all stay in the same spot. Why won't the
folders move like they did in every other OS, this is frustrating
because sometime the job is interrupted and because some of the folders
have 0 Bytes and others have the files that haven't...

I am having problems sharing the administrators music file with another user
on the same computer.
Clicked on the music file. sharing, and then chose the standard users name
from the drop down list that MS recs that you use for everyday use. I only
have the 1 admin. and 1 standard account set up on this Vista Home Premium.
It comes up "Your file could not be shared"

Vista backup question by
[email protected]
Ok, who was the genius who decided to take the manual file selection
out of the backup in Vista???
What a joke!
What kind of OS is it that thinks it knows what I want to backup??
For reference, I explicity keep my files *out* of the user profile
simply because it causes so many issues. And now with Vista, the
posts I see seem to indicate that if my files aren't in the user

Start Menu Search Function by
2grve
hi,
Yesterday I rearranged the programs under the start menu. Since then all the
programs I had moved into one folder (Office) will no longer work. The search
function finds them but clicking on them no longer launches the program.
Everything else works fine. The shortcuts for these programs on the desktop
still work fine.
Any ideas?

Start Menu Search Function by
2grve
hi,
wondering if anyone has an idea what is going on. I rearranged some of the
programs in my start menu. Since then some programs will show up on search
but will not start. The only way to start them is by making a shortcut. SAll
of the programs were in the same filder so I am assuming it has something to
do with that. The programs include all of the office 2007 suite and adobe
acrobat etc...

Ghost RECYCLER by
8-Ball[_2_]
Ok, so one time I accidently deleted some family photos from my computer and
before I realized I had deleted them I had emptied my desktop recycle bin
*oops*
Sooo...I looked arond online and found a way to navigate DOSs' "secret"
RECYCLER directory and had to manually fish out my files. Apperantly windows
keeps a copy of EVERYTHING I have EVER deleted....Shouldn't this not
happen?!?...

XP/Vista Folder Delete/Rename Conflicts by
82 'Clone
I'm running two PCs, one with Win XP Pro and one with Vista. Both connect to
my department's LAN.
When I delete or rename a folder on a network drive, using Win XP Windows
Explorer, the procedure appears to work correctly according to XP.
When I view the same network drive using Vista's Windows Explorer, deleted
folders reappear and renamed folders appear under both their original and new...

Offline Files Not Available by

I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I don't understand the reason but I
can't seem to find this problem anywhere else. I'm trying to sync a
network folder with vista's "offline files" feature but it's nowhere to
be seen. When I right click on a network folder the option is not there
to make "Always Available Offline". I paid for the Ultimate version,
why can't I access the ultimate...
