Save File Dialogs by
B Barley
One thing I'm having a lot of problem getting use to is how the location of
where the file to be saved is displayed. I guess the whole path thing is the
issue in all the folder boxes.
When you're browsing it's fine. But when IE pops up a save file dialog it
seems a little confusing at first.
Perhaps this is just a learning curve now that you don't need to pop up a
treeview for the...

Show Compatibility Files for this Directory--Why? by
PepTech
I use Eudora 7 for email and in previous versions of windows I could open the
C:/program files/qualcom/eudora folder and see all my attachment folder,
mailboxes, ini files, etc in case I needed to transfer them over to another
computer. In WinVista they don't show up automatically.
Instead when i open that directory a new menu item appears on the toolbar
right between Previous Versions and...

Why am I not able to add the delete button to the tool bar? I can right click
to delete, why can't I just click my favorite red X ?

'Copy/Move to.." on context menu by
Marauder
I think it would be very convenient to have the 'copy/move to..' option on
the right-click context menu for files and folders. Nothing to lose by doing
this. Only something to gain for those of us who would find it convenient.
Please choose 'I agree' if you think so too :)

Please make the CTRL button work with Explorer navigation by
Josh
I love how in XP, I can double click on a folder while holding down CTRL and
it opens up a NEW widows at that destination. I also love how I can do this
with the UP button i Explorer and it goes up a directory while opening a new
Explorer window.
This ability is GONE in Vista and it frustrates me to no end. PLEASE allow
for the CTRL button to work again. I'd REALLY like to see this work with...

Hi,
I am using RC1 build 5600 are file tags only associated with pictures, I
thought however tags could be added to any files. Has this feature been
dumbed down due to the release schedule or am I missing something more
subtle.

Stacks dumbed down in RC1 by
Stooovie
I don't like how MS continues to dumb Vista down. First they scaled back
great deal of Virtual Folders prominence in OS. Now, they simplified Stacks
in Explorer, so that their icons do not represent relative volume of its
contents, as it did in earlier builds. That way user had an instant idea how
many items a stack did contain. Now this functionality is lost for no
apparent reason. If...

User folder and C:\Users\User folder by
Jan Kucera
Hi.
Why are these not same?
I have my custom folders in C:\Users\Me\ and they are not listed in the Me
folder rooted at the desktop (the same as in the Start menu). In this one
they are not only listed but I can't even create new ones.
I have Beta2, is it corrected now?

Default hard drive view is not "all items" how can I change this? by
mec
Hi,
I have three hard drives 1 x IDE drive 60GB holding Vista Install and 2 x
250GB SATA drives. Drive E correctly shows the view as all items when opened
drive F shows shows the view associated with music i.e. artist etc.
Where is the setting to allow the change back to show "all items" the
cusomise feature only seems to be associated with folders and not drives. Any
ideas..
Regards.

Total File Size in Status Bar of Explorer by
ankohler
Is there any way to show the total file size of all files in a specific folder?
I am not talking about right click - Properties. In XP the status bar always
showed the size of the all files in that folders when NO file was selected...
I really miss that behaviour...

Restore files from backup made using a previous version of Windows by
Thomas Goddard
Hi,
This seems to be a missing link when you go to the Restore Files in Backup
Status and Configuration (boy have you guys hosed this). No advanced mode?
Anyways, how can I restore my XP backups (this is a critical path)?
Thanks,

Suggested checkbox caption change (usability) by
Freek Versteijn
Dear Vista team,
Looking at the Search window in Vista RC1, I have one suggestion about the
caption for the 'Include non-indexed, hidden, and system files (might slow
down)' checkbox.
From a usability perspective, the last part of the caption can be more
confusing than useful. Providing the user with the fact that checking it
'might' slow down the search does not help him/her at all. Simply...

Control Panel Home Is Missing by
Daibidh
BillyBob,
Did you find a solution? If so, can you point those of us in the same
situation in the right direction?
I am using Beta2 in a dual boot situation. Unfortunately for me, that means
every time I boot to Windows XP, I loose all my restore points. At this
point, I can't restore to a point BEFORE this situation occured.
Thanks,

I use very often the parameter /root
This is my favorite link:
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, /root,"%UserProfile%\My Documents"
Using Windows XP I press to refresh the tree view.
Vista cannot show the new name of the folder!
For example - New Icon (link):
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, /root, "C:\Temp"
