%20 instead of space in folder names. by
NCX001
Reccently I made the mistake of letting my girlfriend take my laptop with her
on a road trip when it came back all of the folder names that had a space in
them have been replaced with a %20. Any ideas what she did?

"Access is denied" problem by
Paul H
I use "TreeSize" to show me how my disk space is used. On my other Vista
Home Premium laptop as well as my XP Pro computers, it runs fine. But on my
new Vista Home Premium laptop, it constantly says "Access is denied" for
many folders. How do I get rid of this and let the program access every
folder? TIA, Paul

"Calculating time remaining" stupidity by
Nick Payne
Is it possible to stop Vista wasting time on this stupidity every time I use
Explorer to copy anything. For example, I just copied a 4.3Gb DVD ISO
between two drives. It took Vista about 20 seconds to tell me that the copy
was going to take 15 minutes: it actually took about 6 minutes for the copy
to complete. And if I copy a large directory structure, it wastes even more
time giving me a...

"Calculating time remaining" when moving files/folders by
just bob
My last thread perhaps was not to the point
My problem is, when I drag and drop to move a folder of 20GB of photos to a
different subfolder on my C drive of my Dell D820 laptop running Vista
Ultimate, there is a dialog box which says "Calculating time remaining".
My work is in these folders so I am very concerned. I have done some testing
moving this folder around and it seems consistently ...

"Calculating time remaining..." - my vote for Most Worthless Vista Dialog 2006 by
Oscar Fowler
Ok, this one is pretty annoying.
It pops-up even when the operation should be instantaneous (like deleting a
single file from your hard drive), which seems to make the operation
significantly slower than it should be.
I goes from annoying to worthless, though, by not telling you anything even
when it would be handy: I just copied a large file to a server, and it
didn't say anything other...

"Copy as path" quoting by
Daniel Noll
I just recently discovered "Copy as path" when holding down shift and
right clicking a file or folder.
Problem is it turns out that it puts quotes around the path so I often
have to manually delete the quotes after pasting the path.
I don't suppose there is some way to change the default behaviour. :-)

"Copy to" in Windows Explorer by
Chufflebean
In XP, I could customize the toolbar in all my folders to have a "copy to"
button that would allow me to copy (or move files) to any folder I selected.
I can't find a way to customize the toolbar in Vista. I don't want to have to
open a new folder to drag and drop the files, and I don't want to have to
navigate to a new one to copy and paste them. Does anyone know a quick and
easy way to...

"Could not find this item" again by
Vman
Hey everybody,
this is the second time I can't delete a 0 kb file off my desktop.
Vista tells me that it doesn't exist, but it's there on my desktop.
I've tried several things, restarting, deleting in safe mode, deleting
via cmd (as administrator), deleting as another user and lots more.
And unfortunately Unlocker doesn't support Vista 64.
Last time it happened I successfully deleted it in the...

"Could not find this item"? by
scrapmonkey
Hi,
I'm trying to copy photos from the public pictures folder to a memory
card.
I can view the photos (Explorer, Windows Photo Gallery) and I can
transfer them to other folders on the PC but when I try to copy them
across I get the following message: "Could not find this item. This item
is no longer located in C:\Users\Public\PublicPictures\Photos. Verify
the item's location and try again." When...

Hello. I've been having trouble for a while now I have been searching
online and none of the solutions will work for me. I have many files

find this item this is no longer located in
"C:/users/britts/documents/saved. Verify the items location and try
again. " They are just music and pictures about 50 files total. I cant

"Date Accessed" attribute not updating by
bob w
For numerous file types (pictures, movies, music amoung others), Vista does
not seem to update the "date accessed" file attribute after the file has been
opened/viewed. Does anyone know why? Or alternatively, what needs to be
done to get the file attribute to be updated?

"Default programs" icons out of whack by
a.k.a.
Hi folks,
This afternoon I installed MS Office 2007 Ultimate (using a custom install,
so that several apps are installed on first opening, and Visio Viewer is not
installed). I haven't gotten around to installing SP1 yet today, and no
other Office hotfixes installed yet.
Until now I had been looking at DOCs with WordPad, so I opened the change
default programs window, and went to "Associate...

"del /s foo*" doesn't work by
Roof Fiddler
What's the command-line command to recursively delete all files and
directories with names beginning with "foo"?
"del /s foo*" doesn't work.
Doing it using the GUI, with Start/Search and searching for "name:foo" and
then selecting all and choosing "delete", doesn't work, because I have
hundreds of such directories, and for each one Vista will grind away on my
disk for a couple minutes and...

"dir" shows different results in cmd vs. 4NT by
Keith S.
I'm sure there's some simple explanation for this, but I'm currently stumped.
If I open a command prompt (cmd.exe) and type "dir c:\windows\system32" in
my Vista Ultimate x64 install, it shows that I have roughly 2300 files there.
However, if I open a 4NT window (an alternate command shell by JPSoft Inc.)
-- whether it's as myself or when choosing "Run as administrator" -- and type
the same...

"Documents" folder getting crowded by
Mark[_6_]
Hi all - I like the way Vista keeps user specific settings in a easily
accessible folder - but this folder is getting crowded quickly.
Is there anyway I can easily filter this view without going to the extreme
of making the folders I don''t need that often "hidden"

"Documents" folder hidden by
Bob L.
I moved “Documents” and “Downloads” to another partition using Location|
Move, etc. Before doing these 2 moves, I created 2 new folders on the new
partition named “Documents” and “Downloads”. My problem is that after the
moves (I said Yes to move all files) the Documents folder on the new
partition disappeared, i.e. it became a hidden system file while the
“Downloads”...
