This file has taken up residence in "my" folder. Clicking on it gets,
"You don't currently have permission to access this folder" even though
I am the administrator. Then I click on continue to get access and then
it reads, "If you started this..."
It is Edit Security Microsoft Windows".
Looking at it's Properties yeilds it is a permission editor for files
and folders.

zip files automatically extract in vista temp folder! by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'm running a Vista Ultimate 32-bit with all the latest updates.
Recently, I have noticed that whenever I re-boot the system, the zip
files stored on my PC automtically extract to the Temp folder located at
Users\USERNAMEAppdata\Local\Temp. For example, if the zip file name is
FILENAME.zip, a temp folder is created here called Temp1_FILENAME.zip,
and this folder contains the extracted...

Zip files by
Waistcoat
Hi all,
I've suddenly lost my ability to unzip files.
Vista (business) doesn't seem to have an associated program, and I don't
know where to find it. Anyone know?
I don't really want to shell out 40 smackers for winzip if I don't have to.
I was able to decompress when I had XP, anyone know what happened?

Zip file support doesn't work by
John
For some reason, my .zip files are not recognized as such. I tried
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\zipfldr.dll
but I get the error:
"The module "c:\windows\system32\zipfldr.dll" was loaded but the entry-point
DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "..." is a valid DLL or OCX
file and then try again."

zip file integration... other archive types? by
ltwally[_2_]
Having the Windows Explorer be able to handle ZIP files like folders has
been great. I am curious: does anyone know of any other "shell
integration" software that would allow RAR, ACE, MSI, 7z, etc etc files
be handled in this way, as well?
Thanks,
-ltwally

Zip extract is empty directory structure by
vankampenp[_5_]
Hi I use Vista Ultimate x64 and am having problems with the build in zip
extract.
I tried multiple zip files from different sources, and these can be
unzipped with various tools, and on other platforms. However, on my
Vista Ultimate x64 the unzipping does not work.
When I double click the file, I can see its content including the full
file structure. (See ZipContents.jpg)

You need permission to perform this action by
nicksez4
For the past couple weeks, I've noticed that some of the files I try to
delete claim that I don't have permission to delete them. First of all,
all of the files on my computer have been installed on the only account
currently on the computer. Second, I have full administrative rights, so
there should be no problem deleting files from anywhere. I'm completely
stumped on how to get rid of any of...

XPS thumbnails by
Charles M.
I had a problem with the XPS viewer, but installing and uninstalling the XPS
Essentials Pack fixed that. Anyway, I had changed the file association while
trying to figure out what was wrong, and doing so stopped XPS thumbnails
from being generated. Since there isn't an option to revert the file type to
its default settings in Vista, I was wondering if there is a registry key
that controls...

XP/Vista Folder Delete/Rename Conflicts by
82 'Clone
I'm running two PCs, one with Win XP Pro and one with Vista. Both connect to
my department's LAN.
When I delete or rename a folder on a network drive, using Win XP Windows
Explorer, the procedure appears to work correctly according to XP.
When I view the same network drive using Vista's Windows Explorer, deleted
folders reappear and renamed folders appear under both their original and new...

XP-style folder tree in explorer by
moi
Hi all,
I seem to recall reading somewhere that there is a mod you can make to
change the style of the tree view from the Vista little arrow style back to
the XP and earlier "+ / -" with dotted lines indicating the nesting levels.
I like the arrows in Vista, but the indents are way to small for me to be
able to "read" the tree view at a glance... and of course, the arrows don't
show up...

XP Style slow search? by
KilroySmith
OK, I must be missing something obvious...
How do I do an XP style search? You remember, right-click a folder,
click "Search", and have Vista search the selected folder? I've been
unable to find this primitive operation.
I'm willing to give up search control to Vista for local drives, but
indexing our entire network, and each and every USB stick/USB Hard drive
seems, well, silly for the once...

XP Style search tool? by

I'm afraid I concluded that for me the Vista search tool is not for me.
Is there a free XP style search tool I can download?
The XP search tool was is so much easier to use.
