Unable to remove read-only attribute from files and folders by
SethChancy
I have installed a program, and it now needs access to it's folders to
add some additional items, but I cannot get Vista to allow me to do
this. I have taken ownership of the file, and used Windows Explorer
(Run As Admin), but still they are marked as read only files. Can
anyone help me? Seth

encryption/opening files/access is denied by
Nate Sonkiss
I right-clicked on a file and opened "Properties", then I clicked "Advanced".
On the pane that opened I selected "Encrypt contents to secure data", I think
I then waited for the files to be encrypted. Along the line the files were
copied to another disk. Since I have re-installed "Windows Vista Ultimate".
How do I open these files?? When I try to "decrypt" them I get flashed with
an error...

Changing the Default File/Folder Views by
Teacher
I realize this question has been asked in many different ways, but I still
don't see an answer that works. When viewing your files/folders in any
program or in Windows XP or Vista. When you select a view from the View Menu
(like List), it is only temporary, it always reverts back. How do you change
the DEFAULT view choice to always display your files/folders as you want to
see them?

Moving folder locations by
BobF[_4_]
Vista adds the useful capability of re-directing a folder to a different
location, e.g. C:\Users\Bob\Favorites to D:\Bob\Favorites. Use it to get
your data away from the OS, or gain concurency from the use of two
disks.
Do this:
Just drag your folder from where it is now onto the folder you want it
to be in, then on the drop select "Redirect Folder" in the context menu
where the choices...

Search function in Explorer by
bistro
When I try to use the Search function in Explorer (search C:\), it
almost consistently fails to find the file, yet when I do a manual
search, the file is there in all it's glory. I've checked spellings,
used wildcards, etc., but still Explorer fails to find the files. Any
ideas? This is frustrating....:sarc:

Recycle Bin Help by
harleynan13
Somehow when I was wiping off my keyboard I must have renamed my recycle bin
(you know how that stuff happens) ... so I saw that it was numbered. I
renamed it Recycle Bin like it should be. Well when I go into Personalization
Change Desktop Icons on the top left it shows 2 recycle bins ~ 1 empty and
1 full ... They are both named Recycle Bin and they have (empty) and (full)
underneath the...

Files appear twice when searching in Explorer by
Keith Howard
When I search for all my Word documents, 478 results appear, but I only have
239. Each real file has a paired search result that is from an old file
location. I used to store the file in such location but I moved it. I did
this by moving a high-level folder, i.e. I changed the path of each of the
239 files by moving the high level folder. I wonder if this problem has
something to do with "My...

Turn off alerts by
Michelle
Windows defender alerts me when it blocks one of my start-up programs.
Trouble is, it keeps alerting me throughout the day.
I want to turn the alerts off.
In Defender-Tools-Default Actions, I have set High Alert, Medium Alert and
Low Alert all to Ignore. But it still alerts me.
What else can I do?
