File management by Charliep77[_3_]
I have numerous files (Excel format mostly (Office 2007)) that I copied over from a PC running XP Professional. Whenever I update one and then try to save I get a popup that it is trying to save to "c" with the name Copy Of filename. Not what I want but figure I can always rename it, but when I click Save I get a popup telling me "A required permission is not held by the client". I am the only...

Vista explorer missing feature? "filename only" select by Chewie
Firstly let me assure you that I love the way Vista looks and, with the exception of the ridiculously intrusive UAC, the way it works. I'm not so enamoured with the redesign of Explorer, though. Please could someone tell me how to disable full-row selct in detail view. I find it very frustrating having to widen windows enough to begin a click-drag from white space.

Vista Search/Index not running by Mike
Hi, my vista Home Premium has yet again got the index/search not working. Start/Control panel/ Index Options, gives me a dialogue box that says the index is not running and all the other functions are greyed out. I have had this before and found that I had to reinstall Vista (a fix was expected early 08) I believe it is being caused by my external hard drive being removed and the drive no...

Can't find a drive in Windows Vista by DJ_Anonymus[_3_]
Ok... so this is how it goes: I have 2 HDDs in my comp, 1 is 80GB and the other is 300GB. After my Vista crashed I tried to do a dual boot of XP and Vista so I partitioned my 80 GB drive to 65GB and 15GB. I installed XP on the 15GB partition which was given the drive letter "E:". After configuring XP I installed Vista on "C:". The first thing I noticed was that is said one of my partitions on...

Allowing .csv format to open in Notepad by Terry[_3_]
Vista has another annoying quirk. I download my cell phone information from the company, and am offered 2 formats, .xls (Excel) or .csv (Comma Delimited), and since I don't have Excel software, I have always opted for the .csv which would automatically open in Notepad after the download. Vista doesn't recognize this format, and since it still works in Notepad, I have to manually open...

More Weird Windows Explorer Behaviour by Darkwunder
Getting Windows Explorer to remember customized folder options has been a huge pain in th a$$ from day one. I have tried all of the recommended "fixes", but nothing has worked over the long-term. At this point, I have pretty much learned to live with it. Today, Explorer decided to throw a new quirk into the mix. I have a Temp folder that I use for holding video and audio files temporarily...

I have saved them in the same way I used to on Windows XP: I create some text files - straight forward Windows Word Processor - when I had about 6 I created a folder and dragged and dropped them into it. I uploaded photos which were also put in a folder and CDs likewise. After a...

Hello all, I made a big boo boo... We have two profiles on our Vista machine. I've gone through and merged a number of our personal folders (Pictures, Videos, Music, etc.) with the Public versions of these folders - effectively creating a single folder that both profiles can access easily. The oopsie is that when I went to merge the Saved Games folder on my profile with the Public Saved...

locating a database file by scook
I have a windows program written using VS 6.0. The program uses a vb front end to collect/edit data and to print forms. The data is stored in an Access database which is installed by default in the C:\Program Files\***242 directory. Our program works well on Vista, with one exception: a feature of our program is the ability to create backups of the most current data added to the database....
