Location of "Documents" folder - moving to a network drive by
Steve Cuddy
I just noticed a strange problem.... if I move the "Documents" folder on my
Vista machine to point to my network home directory, it renames my home
directory on the server to "Documents" - at least it appears to.
Once I start navigating deeper into the structure it calls it the real name
which is my username.
I tested with a second user whose home directory is in the same root as mine
on...

Vista to XP wireless network problem by
brian
Hello All: I have a wireless router that is wired to one computer with
xp on it and connects wireless to a laptop that's running Vista.
Connects fine - both access internet no problems. The problem is with
sharing files between the two comps. I thought that it was xp not
talking to Vista so I took the laptop to the router and wired it up and
both machines can see and share and copy back and...

including my existing applications, but there was no windows.old folder in
the root of C: (the only drive, showing Hidden Files and Folders and

How to make Vista display same details for all folders? by
Abe
How to make Vista display same details for all folders?
In XP it was simple, disable remember each folders view settings, set
the view options, then apply to all folders.
In vista, how do I make vista display the same details view regardless
of the folder's contents?
Thanks

Setting all directory view settings the same. by
zzz
I tried to set-up all my subfolder directories all with the same layout in
Vista Ultimate, by selecting: Tools, Folder Options, and View. Or: Organize,
Folder & Search, and View. However selecting “Apply to Folders” will not set
the width and location of the directory’s fields nor set the size of the
window. Perhaps there's another way, or this feature doesn't work, although
it...

desktop icons by
Gaylin
I've had my new Dell and Vista Home Premium for a couple of weeks. I've
carefully arranged about 20 desktop icons in related groupings. But this
morning when I turned on the computer, they were all lined up along the left
hand side. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to lock them where I
want them. I tried "Search" but it didn't help.
Thank you.

Transferring files from Vista back to an XP computer using a cable by
tbgman
Because of a hardware problem, I need to transfer the contents of my new
windows vista laptop back to my old laptop running XP. There are several GB
of data here, so I was hoping to use some sort of direct cable connection. I
used an Easy Transfer Cable to migrate from my old laptop to my new one, but
its doesn't seem to want to allow me to go the opposite way.
Any ideas on how I transfer...

Inexistent file returned in search by
Pablo Montilla
Hello, I have moved some files from one folder to another, and even if the
Indexing Options dialog says 'Indexing Complete', they are returned when I
do a search.
Doesn't the index remove files that are no longer in the system?

Pablo

Vista won't allow "Find Exact Phrase" search by
FrustratedVistaUser
In Windows Vista, I am frustrated that I cannont conduct a "find exact
phrase" search of all of the documents on a CD-ROM. This was easy in Windows
EP, using Advanced Search -- it was possible to search the contents of the
files on a CD-ROM with Word doucments, pdf documents, and HTML documents.
Now I can't.
