ANS: "What's the deal with UAC (Windows Needs Your Permission scre by
sbryce61
I am not a computer programmer. I do not know how to access behind the scene
programs.
When I start internet explorer, it does not ask for permission.
I would like to know how to make internet explorer, an administrator.

searching network locations by
@rturo
Why searching network locations feature in windows vista is not present.
Desktop Search has this great feature. Is there an special package that
Microsoft is going to release later for the enterprise?
This option is only available if set the folder to be syncronized to my
computer, but somtimes you don't want to mantain a copy in your computer, you
just want to index that location for fast...

reording Favorite Links by
SquirrelSF
Why can't I reorder some of my favorite links? For example, when I create
one for Documents, Videos, or Music, it always goes to the top of the list,
and maybe I don't want it at the top? This started in RC1, where I
discovered if I deleted all my favorite links, and then recreated them, they
obeyed my selected order. However in RC2, I can't find a workaround, and it
always puts what it...

NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate by
Rob Burnett
After an in-place upgrade from Windows Media Center 2005 to Windows Vista
RC2 Ultimate (build 5744), the following key and value were created on my
box
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate
REG_DWORD 0x01
What's up with this registry being created during setup? Is it OK to change
it back to 0x00 ?

Loss of functionality compared to XP by
Jimmy Brush
Hello,
As a consolation prize, you can copy the path of the file from the ui more
easily now. Hold down shift and right-click the file/folder you want, then
click copy as path. Puts the quotes in there for you.

Lost Files by
JL
I recently upgraded my system to Vista RC2. All would appear to be well,
however, I seem to have lost the majority of my files from an external USB
drove (300 gig). The folders are there, but are reported to be empty,
however the disk reports 73 gig in use, so I think they are there but
somehow "unseen".
I have run Check Disk (who knows if it is running or not!)...
Anyone with any ideas?

Move the "home" folder location by
yirm
I'd like to set up an account with a profile which has a home folder on a
different partition -- not in c:\users. I've tried changing the Home
folder "local path" location in Computer Management Local Users and Groups
Users (accountname) Properties Profile.
So this does create a set of folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.) in
the specified location. However, When you...

search problem in RC1 by
Orville
The document search feature in RC1 isn't working for me. It's not finding
files that I know have the search word in them. I've checked my indexing
settings, even rebuilt the index. I'm pretty sure it worked before, although
that may have been Beta 2. Any ideas?

Locked out of My Music by
JackS_77
Hi,
I have upgraded to Vista RC1 from XP Home. I noticed that folders such as My
Pictures and My Videos have been renamed to Pictures and Videos as they
should be, but My Music remained as it was. I attempted to access My Music,
but was told that I do not have permission to view the folder, and any
attempts to gain permission failed. It is also worth noting that the folder
has a shortcut...

Unable to locate web-bank certificate file by
Michael
I recently signed up to web-banking. This requires a .P12-certificate file to
be stored on my hardrive at a location of my choice. I configured it to be
stored in c:\users\username\documents. The banking works fine and reports
the file located in the chosen directory. However, the file itself can't be
located anywhere on the harddrive including "virtualstore" or "temp" folders.

"Open with" fails with Visual Studio 2005 by
Nick Payne
Because of the way that VS operates its shortcut is setup to run as
Administrator (this is done by Vista when installing VS, not by me). If I
double-click on a source file in Windows Explorer, or right click on it and
select Open With / VS, I get an error msgbox saying "Windows cannot find
filename". If such operations between contexts are not allowed (similar to
the problem with dragging...
