I can nto create a shortcut by nicholas hall
I do not know why but when I right click and select new shortcut nothing happens. As this is the first time I have tried to create a shortcut I do not know when or what I did to cause it, or maybe it is not what I have done? Any help, info or advice would be gratefully received. NIK

need some help by nicholas hall
I wondered if anyone could post a reg file with the reg entries that handles new shortcuts? The reason I am asking for this is because I am having trouble creating shortcuts and after trying many things I think the problem is a reg entry that has gone wrong? Any help would be gratefully accepted. NIK

Folder Heading columns by GymBobk
Is there any way to recursively set the folder heading columns for multiple folders? I have hundreds of folders in my music folder and would like to have all the columns the same. That way if my columns are Name, Album, Artist, Genre, Year ... at the top level, I would like all folders contained in my Music Folder to have the same columns without having to set each folder individually. This...

Cannot open files found by 'Search' by Jake
When I try to open Word or Excel files found by "Search" I get the message: "Windows cannot find filename. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." Double-clicking on the file icon in the 'Search' window results in the relevant program (Word or Excel 2007) opening, but the file itself doesn't open. However, if I go to the relevant file in its folder and click on its...

Files created during upgrade from XP by Dave
There appear to be file backups made of my original Windows XP install when I upgraded to Vista Home Premium. Is it required that the directories be maintained or can they be deleted once things seem to be in working order and no plans to revert. If so is there a list of the files that can be safely deleted, or would it be wise to burn these to disk before deletion. Thanks in advance for...

Searching by date range by Mark B.
I was hoping that I could search in Windows Explorer using a date range function that existed in previous Windows (98, 2000, XP) based on Date Created, Date Modifed, etc. but in the Advanced search options I only see a single date field to enter (with , , = options). Does this functionality not exist? Or do I just need to enter my boolean logic in the search field? If that is the case,...

I have a C-drive (160GB) for my programs and a D-drive (400GB) for my pictures, music etc... I want to save my pictures and music in the public file for pictures and music. However this file is per definition on the C-drive and I cannot change the location. I have tried to do so by using Properties/Location. It is not possible to change the location. What is the best procedure to follow to...

This folder is shared with other people... solution by Jake
I am using rc1 but this should work for everyone: I have found that people have been having problems with this since last year. First I created a new account and within a few days deleted it. Now my folders were still being shared with a phantom account so whenever I wanted to delete some folder (empty or not) it would give me the warning "This folder is shared with other people......" I...

Would like to drag some folders from my separate hard drive to the Navigation Pane and a little red circle with a bar across it appears and I'm now unable to move anything at all to the Navigation Pane. When in the Navigation Pane have tried right...

Start Menu Search question by nhey
Can anyone explain the logic behind the results that are displayed in the Start Menu when you do a search in that location? A subset of all the search results is displayed, usually taking up far less than the total space available, and I can't figure out why it decides to display certain few "hits" (findings) there, and not others.

All the files that I had in My Documents are gone by Jae
Before I upgraded from XP pro to Vista Business I moved all of my folders and files that were under My Documents to an external USB hard drive. I then changed the default directory for My Documents to that location and everything worked like a champ. Then I upgrade to Vista thinking that since my My Douments were all on an external drive that I would be safe. Then I upgrade to Vista and...

Finding Files by DisplayName
How can I search for a text string in ALL files, every single one, I don't care if it is txt, zip, or other binary file. If it is a file (takes up space on hard drive), then I want to search it. Currently I can't find anything because Vista refuses to check files other than txt, doc or other "special" files. Also, adding special extensions in the index is not a good solution, cause I could...
