Moving Default User (AKA My Documents) locations in Vista, how?? by
William Topping
Ok, I have searched the Internet to no avail. Also I have searched these
forums to no avail.
Under windows XP, I could move the entire "My Documents" folder and have it
point to a different location. An example would be D:/Docs/. Where D is an
entirely differnet HDD.
Bring up explorer in Vista using Win+E.
I have tried to right click to bring up the properties of the user folder

Hidden Folders by
Jerry West
I noted that some folders are not visible in Windows Explorer, i.e
C:\UsersprofilenameAppData. Also, it appears registered file types do not
have their file extensions displayed. Is there a way to re-enable these
options?

more on hidden files by
Gene Fitz
I have found that some files are hidden, and like to stay hidden. For those
using E-mule, you will find your "incoming" folder won't show in Vista. I
don't know how to show hidden files in Vista, so I just re-routed my
downloads to "downloads" in my documents..
My question is if there is a way to make these files appear, or change the
settings?

RC1 does not mount one of three disk drives by
Jacob Levanon
I have installed RC1 on my desktop. I have two internal and one external
disk drives.
The installation completed well and everything seems to be working fine. One
(huge) problem: vista is not mounting my second drive (even though it
recognizes it as being there). It mounts the 0 disk and the external one,
but not the second. When I pull up the disk manager it sees the hardware and
claims...

Where are my downloaded files and how can I access them by
Gavin
I've read several posts on the 'sandbox' and 'virtual drive' but there must
be a way to permanantly set permissions to be able to see them... right?
What a pain in the neck if not. Thanks in advance for any help. And oh yes,
I spent 5 hours downloading build 5728 on Vista Beta 2, then couldn't get to
it so I spent another 5 hours downloading on my XP machine. I am now running

Vista: Windows Explorer missing button for navigate up by
telemachus
Hello Mike, I am trying to find out the answer to the same question. Alt-UP
works, but there must be a mouse button too. Very strange it is gone.
I also find the new folder view less easy to see at a glance what
level/folder you are viewing... Levels should be indented more.

adding tags to text (and other) files by
Blastdoor
One of the things that most excited me about Vista was the alleged ability to
add tags (aka keywords, labels) to files, and then search on those tags.
But it appears this is only supported in Office documents :-(
Is there any way to add tags to any file type? Couldn't there be an option
for Vista to put some kind of a wrapper around the file (or a header at the
beginning) which Vista could...

Missing folders in Explorer by
commeleon
In Vista RC1, I have suddenly lost sight of some major folders (Users,
Documents etc.). The files & folders are still there, I can access them via
the address bar, and once I'm there Explorer shows everything correctly. In
some cases I can see the folder in the left folder pane, but they don't show
in the right pane when the parent folder is selected. I've tried everything I
know (view...

Filetype Properties (icon, application, context menu) by
Stefan Schmidhammer
Hi NG,
How can I change the filetype properties like icon, which application
should open the filetype (and with what parameters) and what actions
should the context menu show if I right click a file.
In XP I can change this settings in the explorer with
Tools - Options - File Types
But there is no File Types tab in Vista RC1
