file down load by
JMan
I have down loaded the new vista file for RC1. I used the download manager
that MS provides. When finished I figured it would store it in my docs
because that's where I told it to go.
However it did not store in MY docs it stored it he

Cannot see iso file? by
Steve Hillier
Can I thank you guys for finding me the solution to the download problem a
number of us have had with RC1.
Pity MS did not take note of your comments and do something about it in Beta
2 release.
Can we broadcast your efforts far and wide because this is likely to be a
big problem in Vista across the whole wide world of Windows Users.

Problems associated with RC1 download issue (lost file) by
Steve Hillier
Other notes indicate the problem with the RC1 download file being placed in
an unaccessible folder.
Normally with Windows folders you can go into security options and add or
permit actions on these folders. The group administrators can normally
assign to themselves permissions to control ALL files. If nothing else,
administrators can take ownership of files and folders and then get on with...

Searching, sorting, and excluding files by attributes by
Roof Fiddler
Vista has spiffy new organizational and search capabilities. It can quickly
show me all my files with names that begin with a specified string, and it
can quickly show me all my files that contain words that start with a
specified string. But how do I get it to:
Show me all my files with names that contain (not necessarily begin with) a
specified string?

delete windows old by
danbrown
I read in a post that I could delete the windows old file is that true
or does it affect something else? The reason I ask is I deleted it then
defragged and everything changed on my computer. My sidebar was gone,
all my Icons moved to the right hand side of the screen, my verizon
EVDO card stopped working and when I attached a second monitor if I
opened a file I would get half on my laptop and...

Add tree version of Favorites to Explorer Toolbar as in XP by
jpm
I use Favorites extensively in Explorer to quickly locate files in XP and
really miss this feature in Vista. You can add a limited number of favorites
in the "Favorite Links" window but the functionality is inferior to the tree
version in IE and XP Explorer.

cannot delete directory. Strange behaviour by
Carlo
I have a lot nested directory (around 15) on a usb 256Mb pen drive, i tried
to delete them all from the top one but the count of files somehow goes
beyond the real number.
Around the 99% done the number amazingly increases doubling so i got this
message
Deleting (150000 files) 2002022Kb.
Then it hangs.

Disk Cleanup voodoo by
Roof Fiddler
In Disk Cleanup, which directories is it looking in for temporary files? It
found 2GB on my machine, yet a search (advanced search, Location Everywhere,
and including non-indexed, hidden, and system files) found only .5GB in all
folders with names beginning with "temp". Why won't Disk Cleanup at least
show me which files it's about to delete?

Virtualized Store??? by

Several times now I have saved documents or printed to the Office Image
Writer printer as a means of saving TIF files and found that my documents
are NOT stored in Documents where I specified BUT in a virtualized store
which holds C \ USERS \ CHRIS \ DOCUMENTS.
What's this all about?? I also seemed to have permissions problems to a
folder I thought I had created myself, had to redefine...
