How to select files in a directory by typing the first letter of the
name like in XP
Something has changed on my copy of Vista 64-bit Home Premium, and
now when I try to type the first letter of a filename to jump to it,
instead Vista puts it in the search box in the upper right hand corner
of the window instead of jumping to the filename like in all previous
versions of Windows.

Rethinking the Recycle Bin by
Yao Ziyuan
I just have some new thoughts about the handling of file deletion and
undeletion in the 2010s. The key points a
(1) ALMOST NEVER DELETE DATA PHYSICALLY. Today's new computers usually
come with 500GB+ disk space, so deleting files to save space is less
and less a necessity. So a new Recycle Bin concept could always
preserve deleted files physically until there is really a space
shortage or the...

resize partition by

My new notebook cam with two partitions (systempartition and a logical drive

With the drive utility of vista home premium I can only shrink the
partitions. The command for expanding the partitions is on both partitions
inactive.
The actual situation is: c (system) 64.1 GB 28.4 free; d (data) 42.7 GB 12.6
free.

Extended Tiles - broken - any fix? by
Michael Hainsworth
The "Computer" window used to display as Extended Tiles. It still does, but
the tiles are no longer "extended" -- they don't show the size of my hard
disks or the remaining capacity, etcetera.
My wife's account still displays Extended Tiles correctly, but mine does not.
I love this view! Halp!

Search for files with parenthesis in name by
Erik Wikström
How do I search for files who's name contains a parenthesis? Entering
(2) gives me all files containing 2 (which are a couple of houndred,
while there should only be two or three with (2) in the name) since the
parentheses have a special meaning when searching. Ive tried to use \ to
escape them but no luck.
