Blank Icon Shown for HTML Files by Bryan[_9_]
Running Vista 64 Ultimate. After installing Office 2007, all of my *.htm, *.html and *.mht files are now shown in Explorer as the blank white icon. I confirmed that the Default Icon settings under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT match those of another Vista machine, yet something is preventing Explore from displaying the appropriate icons for the aforementioned file types. I could just force the file...

PLEASE HELP! vista won't remember the last file location by Loz
Hello, does anyone know how to make vista remember the last file location that I've saved to? When doing loads of different work, that I want to save in one specific folder, I have to go through all the different locations, starting from documents (or desktop sometimes) just to find the folder. It's SO annoying! Surely there's an easy box to tick somewhere, that says "remember last file...

DiskJunction util by mazorj
PC Magazine has come out with an interesting utility that taps in Vista's "symbolic links" (whatever they are). http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2347491,00.asp This is all new to me, and one knowledgeable commenter at the site is having some significant problems that the author has offered to investigate. But assuming that DiskJunction works or can be made to work as advertised, can anyone...

I have completely screwed up my Permissions/Sharing settings...HELP PLS!! by RD[_3_]
Hi two separate, but inter-related stories. 1. A few months ago we had a visitor stay from Europe (I am in Perth, Australia) so I decided to 'hide' my files (kept on a separate D drive) so that IF he wanted to use my PC he wouldn't see them. 2. Almost at the same time I decided to partition my C drive into 2 separate drives (creating a drive I named "W", and installed Windows 7 onto W.

Missing files from a "disconnected Location" in documents by Rob Sadler
Hello, I had a Vista 32bit machine with custom document locations mapped to a server that was on the same network. I removed the server not thinking about the relocated documents folders. The user that the computer belongs to didn’t think much of it when her documents disappeared because she had a new user account and there wasn’t much in it. It has been about a year since the server was...

OK, so for starters, when I am downloading a file, I can only open it, because choosing "save" just closes the box and nothing happens. Also, I cannot right click on a picture and choose "save as" because yet again nothing happens. Various other related bugs are happening too. At first I thought it was just an error with internet explorer buuuuuut, it also happens with non internet related...

Moving jpegs by iowabucks
Hey everyone. I just did a fresh install of Vista on a new 500gb hard drive. I backed up all my old photos and data. Made 5 partitions on this new one and tried to leave one for just media. I have alot of pictures. My C:\ drive was originally intended for the OS, updates and virus/trojan scanners. I made it for 40gb to have extra room left over. It seems the extra room is going fast now....

Help! HDD Partitioning Inside Vista x64 by NYCGirl
My issue is that I cannot make a large enough partition from inside Vista x64. I have two 1TB HDDs in mirroring, and there's only 1 primary partition right now that spans across the entire 1TB. 350GB of the 1TB are occupied by the OS and documents / files. My objective is to split this 1TB into two partitions for dual boot with Win7 RC. And for that I need a 2nd primary partition on this...

what &^% is desktop anyway? by John[_28_]
I double click the c drive under My Computer. The left pane (whatever that is) starts with a thing called "Desktop." What is that? The first thing under Desktop is my user folder, I think. But my user file is also under c:\users and neither one is a shortcut. It turns out that if I delete one of them I delete both of them. How does that work? What kind of "folder" is Desktop such that it can...

Batch file to close a window by Hoopskidoodle
Dohhhh! The title should read: Batch file to close a _*folder*_. I preface this by saying that I only have a rudimentary knowledge of batch files. Also, I searched high and low for this information before decided to make this post. I have a batch file that launches several programs and a specific Firefox profile that I use to study French. That works fine. However, the complimentary batch file...
