System Check Points question by niapet[_2_]
Hi all, I was wondering.. is there any way to move the location vista uses to store system restore checkpoints? I have vista installed to its own 30 gig partition and the restore points clutter up the breathing room really fast... I have another drive with 150+ gigs free and i would like to use that to store the check points... otherwise i have to delete all of my restore points ever few...

Can I disable "Grouping" in Vista's Windows explorer?? by Bryan
I would like to completely disable the "Group By" and file grouping in Windows Explorer in Vista. I detest this ill-conceived "feature" . I' ve seen articles on how to "reset" the views so they stick and they're only temporary solutions as Vista eventually start grouping again.. I'm **S I C K** of this so-called feature and it does nothing but hamper my work efficiency and lower my...

Windows Size by Martin Racette
Hi, In the past few weeks most of the windows will not keep either size and position in the screen, nor will they keep the way they are suppose to be viewed, they were keeping it since I installed Vista. I can no longer use the restore system, since it has been too long since the problem started, I thought that a simple rebooting as it used to work, would this time around, but it did not....

sendto by Anne
All the tutorials I've read on how to add items to the Sendto list involve using the sendto option at: %UserProfile%\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Sendto I don't have this folder there. See sendto attached. When I create a sendto folder in Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows, it does not work.

Windows Search not working correctly by Shaom2005
Since reinstalling Vista and having done all the updates and let the index run fully using the defaults, I've discovered an issue which is rather odd. If I do a search for a file from the Start Menu's, Search box, I get 'No items match your search'. If I do the same search from Windows Explorer I find the file immediately! Any ideas how to solve this?

Grooming Windows Vista backups by Marc Hoffman
Hi all... I'm having problems with a client running Windows Vista backup. Their external backup drive to which Vista is backing up data is filling up. Is there any way to tell Vista to "groom" the data, removing older data to keep the drive afloat? Or, is there way to have Vista completely reset the entire backup set on a regular schedule? Thank you!

User file collapse by Norwood1
Whenever I look for a file using Vista explore, as soon as the file tree opens, the "user" file is always open.  This takes up a lot of room.  I always have to manually collapse it in order to see all the other files and drives easily.  My question is:  Is there any way that I can make the default that the "user" file is closed when Vista explore opens the file tree? ...

Hello! I hope someone can help! I have asked this question in the Dutch newsgroup and previously in this newsgroup but unfortunately it seems to be a rare problem. However, I have more information now so maybe this helps! When I choose (using Vista) 'stack by name' the shown folders are empty. It shows a-e, f-l, m-r, s-z and also for each folder the number of items found but when I click on...

Desktop Shortcut Icons are not actually Shortcut Icons by turnbeau
I want to clean up my desktop by deleting some shortcut icons. Each of the icons contains the directional arrow in the lower left corner. However, when I "right click, delete" on any Shortcut Icon, I am prompted: *Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin? *I actually deleted several programs before realizing what I was doing. The wording I was accustomed to in WinXP: *Are...

Batch files by this
Hello! I am a beginner at batch files but I mean you have to start somewhere. The thing is that I don't want the command window to be visible when I run the batch file. Do you know how to do that? I have also an other question. There is a program(folding client) that runs from the command and I want to be able to hide it. I want a small and simple solution/program that can do that. I don't want...

Hello!, Hope someone can help! I am Dutch and unfortunately there is no Dutch Vista discussion group. Therefore I am using this discussion group. However I am using the Duch version of Vista so I will do my very best to try to translate to english. My apologies for any mistakes! Help with folder relocation by dflpprd
I recently just upgraded to Vista (SP1), and I'm having problems with the folders in the Personal folder. Initially, I wanted to delete them, but they didn't seem to respond. So next I tried to relocate them, starting with the 'Desktop' folder. I changed its location to 'C:\Windows' but all it did was relocate all the files from the 'C:\Windows' folder to the desktop. Now I have all of those...

Partitioning by Boblink
Hi, I used the Disk Management (Administrative Tools) to Partition a 500G "C" Drive to a C, D, E and F Drive. I decided that I don't need one of the Drives (the F Drive) and want to reallocate the space to the D and E Drives. The problem that I am having is that the F Drive is marked as Primary Partition and the E and F Drives as Logical Drives and when I right click on the either the D or E...
