"Send to" powertool by
Larry
All of the previous versions of Windows supported a "send to" power tool that
would allow you to browse where you wanted to copy/move a file to. I can not
get the tool to install on Vista. Does anyone know of a similar tool or how I
can get this to install?

"Stack By" weird results by
Moody Marco
I think the new Vista "Stack By" feature would be very handy and useful, but
the problem is it's practically no use to me, as it seems to show up "old"
files.
For example if I have some .avi files in a folder, then delete them, the
next time I use Stack By type on that folder, the 3 old files show up, even
though I deleted them.
It's also a pain since I like to Stack By "type", but "type"...

"There is already a file with the same name..." when copying by
Peter Meinl
Copying a folder containing some files and subdirectories to an empty folder
on a different partition using Vista Windows Explorer sometimes I get errors
"There is already a file with the same name in this location ...".
The problem seems to be related to permissions.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a folder \test with a file test.txt and a subdirectory \db.
Using SQL Server Management Studio...

"Unable to sync at this time. Please try again." by
famousdavis
I'm running an XP desktop and a Vista Ultimate laptop. I just
reinstalled Vista on the laptop, and things are working nicely except my
use of Vista's Offline Files & Folders. I can successfully establish a
sync relationship with the shared folders on my XP desktop. However,
when I go offline and make a change to one of those sync'd files on my
Vista laptop. then reconnect to my network to sync...

"undo" function permanently deleted files by
dogtato
I copied some files to a directory yesterday, modified them, then today I hit
ctrl+z and it turns out the last action I did it could undo was copying the
files. So it removed them and they don't exist anymore. Is there any way to
get them back because all the "undo delete" type utilities seem not to work.
So this is a terrible bug, right?

"unspecified error during System Restore" - Vista Operating Syste by
FrankM
My problem is with the System Restore. When I clicked on a shortcut to System
Restore I got: "The ordinal 2 could not be located in the dynamic link
library SRRSTR.DLL".
However, when I used another method to run System Restore, I found it
appears to have created restore points without incident, as numerous Restore
Points are present.
BUT when I selected a Restore Point, even the oldest...

"Up" button by
Bob
I am running Vista Home Premium box. When I opened a folder window in the
middle of a folder tree in XP I often used the "Up" button at the top of
folder window. I miss the "Up" button in vista. I looked and could not
find how to set up this feature in vista. Did I miss it?
Is there a setting available in vista to give me the same type of Up" button
that is in XP? Is there any way to...

"Windows Explorer has stopped" working error message by

In my Vista Enterprise machine, after the SP1 upgrade, when I open the file
manager with a link to explorer.exe or with a click on a folder link on the
desktop, the file manager works normally but when I close it I get a
"Windows Explorer has stopped working" and soon after "Windows Explorer is
restarting..." error messages.
If I open the file manager with the /e switch (like...

Neil Benson
Hello, I've got a new Vista Enterprise laptop to replace a Vista Business
tablet PC, and I'm trying to sync one of our network folders offline.
When I tright click on the network folder the option 'Always available
offline' is missing. It's not available for any network folder.
I've checked that offline files is enabled. Does anyone have any other ideas
about how to make this option...

'Copy/Move to.." on context menu by
Marauder
I think it would be very convenient to have the 'copy/move to..' option on
the right-click context menu for files and folders. Nothing to lose by doing
this. Only something to gain for those of us who would find it convenient.
Please choose 'I agree' if you think so too :)

'Save' and 'Open' dialog - carpal tunnel syndrome.... by
acegap
Could someone please save me 2-300 clicks per day..?
To save a file in the Save File dialog I have to first expand the narrow
dialog with 'Browse Folders' then drag the bottom window edge down to see the
full expanded file tree so I can go to the top and close down the
'Documents', 'Pictures', 'Videos', etc, etc, etc, which I have nothing to do
with whatsoever... and then click on 'Computer'...

'tags' field embedded in metadata by

'tags' field embedded in metadata
When I first got vista I could not wait to tag my files, it's the best
feature of the OS in my opinion. However it was important that the data
entered stayed latched in the file, as it mostly does, but I had a horrible
feelng that all my hard work might be missplaced as the all important 'tag'
field was not present in the visible fields of any file under XP....

'virtual' renaming of folders? by
riix
Machine was XP. Has another drive ('D:'), that drive has a large folder
(10GB) named 'x'.
Machine upgrade to Vista64. On 'C:' of course, and 'D:' was unaffected,
as expected.
Few days later - as per business need, renamed the folder from 'x' to
'y' - typical right-click, rename. Seems to have worked, it now appears
as 'y'.
