My pictures luckily still have the original date taken but the videos all say today as the Created, Modified, & Accessed Date. My camera definitely has the right date since my pictures are fine but is there any setting I can go to so I can keep...

Why Does It Take So Long To Delete Files? by Pat[_8_]
When I'm deleting a large number of files, it takes forever. Why is this? This a new laptop which is supposed to be faster. It has 4 gig memory & a large hard drive. It is also very slow when emptying the recycle bin. In fact, everything in Vista seems to be slower than in XP, even though the older computer was 4 years old. What's the big deal with Vista supposed to be better? IMO it's...

I created three files home exercise 1.jpg, exercise .jpg, exercise 3.jpg in Public/Physical Therapy. When I searched for execise in Public none of them showed up. When I searched for home only home execise 2.jpg showed up. I am using Vista Home premium. The folder is index including both file name and contents. Any idea why something like thiw would happen? Thanks, Chas

screensaver locations, why are there four places and which are important by dmiller
I have windows vista premium home edition 64 bit. I installed a screen saver which by all rights should not have worked, but it does. It was installed in the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\" folder. In this location it does not show up in the drop down list with the other screensavers. So after looking where the other screensavers are located I put a copy in "C:\Windows\System32\". Now it shows...

How can I make Vista find files at: C:\Users\Roope\Desktop\Roope\Musiikkia? -- dAdaa

Windows 7 beta: unable to get library search to work? by Andreas Eibach
Greetings, I'm gonna post this here because there is no Win7 usenet group (yet). Plain and simple: library search doesn't work for me at all. I've done the steps exactly to the tutorial: add ONE folder with subfolders (and I kept it to one tree for now) Then I tried searching, even for most primitive combinations like c*.* or c* but absolutely no search results.

Windows Explorer in Vista stops responding when accesing network by Yngve
Hi! I have a month old Toshiba Satellite L300D laptop, and I am experiencing problems with Windows Explorer. The program tends to stop responding when accesing local network resources. I get the options to wait for a response / close and start the program again / close the program. I have tried waiting for it to respond, without success so far. So; I have to close it, and let it start again.

unstable screen by Leo Kline[_2_]
I am running 64 bit vista on an XP420. There are occasions when I am in the middle of a task such as an excel worksheet that a mouse movement will cause the screen to either dissapear or enlarge to maximum font sixe and there-fore be off the screen. There is no warning message asking if I want to exit or save the work. What causes this instabioity and how do I avoid it?

I'm looking for a free utility by Bikini Browser[_3_]
Wow! Thanks for the blast from the past! XtreeGold was one of my fav DOS utilities. I often wondered what happened to those old utilities... BUT HOWEVER THE THING IS that won't work for me. I need something that scans the entire hard drive and shows me at a glance which folders are taking up the most space. As I said, I have 146gb on a drive and most of it is full but I can't tell where...

Files without extensions gets icon from quick time by JimB
There are files *without* an extension that get weird icons from quicktime (*.mov) files or sometimes from *.srt files (I adjusted the *.srt files to get a special icon). How can I change this. I've tried a program called Unassoc that can unassociate file extensions but because files without extensions are not in the list this method doesn't work. -- JimB Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com

No Indexing Options in Contol Panel by Amelior
I am using Windows Home Premium. There is no indexing options tab in my control panel under System and Maintenance. The Windows Search service is started, and there are no Administrative logs on the problem. The checkbox on each drive property windows is checked for indexing the applicable drives. My search results are totally incomplete--it misses lots of obvious file name searches. Anyone...

Status window delay in Windows Explorer by Markus Eßmayr
Hello, it seems to me, that Windows Explorer on Vista has some kind of delay before hiding the status window, which shows/showed the progress information of long file operations. I try to explain, what i mean. If you just copy a small file, the copy is performed without showing anything. But for larger or lots of files, a status window is shown which gives some

Burning Files with Windows Vista by Benjamin Mussler
How do I stop Vista (Ultimate, 32 bit) from adding "desktop.ini" files to CDs without breaking its ability to burn single files? I tried deleting the "desktop.ini" file from the temporary CD files but then Vista wouldn't let me burn a single file to the CD. When I used Windows Explorer to select one single file and hit the "Burn" button in the Windows Explorer toolbar, the CD drive displayed the...
