add to favorites does not remember folder by
tiverson
In XP I liked to open several similar websites and then add them one by
one to a dedicated folder. XP remembered the folder each time but in
Vista I have to start from Favorites and go find it. Is there a setting
I can change for this?

shortcut at C:/ProgramData/Application Data by
gordon55y[_2_]
Hi,
I notice that vista has made some shortcut folders as placeholders
for
previous XP folders. For instance:
C:/Application Data
If I look at the properties for that shortcut, it is type folder with
no target.
That all makes sense.
But I see another shortcut at:

Hey, I've got this problem where I cannot delete files because I need
"permission" to do so. I am the administrator on this computer. I have

Probelem opening .htm files stored on my hard drive by
anh
I downloaded some files from Wikipedia to look at when I'm offline, but
I'm getting an error message when I double-click on the file from within
Windows Explorer. An error box appears to say:
WINDOWS CANNOT FIND 'DRIVE/DIRECTOREY/FILENAME.HTM'. MAKE SURE YOU
TYPED THE NAME CORRECTLY, AND THEN TRY AGAIN.
But behind that box the file opens normally, with all pictures and
other elements. The...

Resize primary partition in Vista by
Larry[_2_]
Hello,
I have a Vaio with Vista that I just spent about 10 hours or so cleaning up
crapware, etc. from. Now, Sony has a hidden 8GB recovery partition that I
very much would like to reclaim. So I deleted the recovery partition using
diskpart. Next I went on to try to expand/extend the primary partition, but
that option is not available from the GUI and diskpart does not allow it...

Partitioning caused a rights problem by
darkgandhi05
I tried out Windows 7 on a new partition on my hard drive and I only
gave it about 30gb. Since I liked it better than Vista I ended up using
it more than I thought...and i ran out of space. So I tried to expand
the partition and that didn't work properly and Windows 7 won't boot up
anymore. That's fine, I'll delete the Windows 7 partition. Only problem
is that while accessing some of my Vista...

I HATE vista file searching. by
auser
I don't understand why searching in vista is so slow.
I have a folder filled with a bunch of subfolders with about 1000 mp3s. I
right click the folder and select search and type in "name:*.mp3". This list
should be done in 2 seconds. But instead it takes minutes. What is it
looking for? I purposely specified the "name:" part so it wouldn't look
inside of the files in the folders.
Another...

Multiple boot and NTFS problems -- Vista, Ubuntu/GRUB, CHKDSK by
wesleyx
I have a dual-boot (Vista/Ubuntu) system, with 2 system hard drives.
Each drive has both Vista and Ubuntu, in multiple partitions, and my
intent is that the second hard drive should be a bootable mirror of the
first, for both Vista and Ubuntu. This seemed like a very good idea at
the time -- in the event of a drive problem on HD-0, I simply would boot
from HD-1, for both Vista and Ubuntu. I...

Need to delete a file but Vista does not let me. by
Michael Moser
Occasionally Vista and its permission handling really drives me nuts: I
needed to replace a certain .exe file in a subdirectory of "C:\Program
Files" but for some, to me unexplainable, reason Vista at first did not
let me delete the old version.
The file was owned by "Administrators" of which I am a member. When I
checked "Effective Permissions" of that file for my user-id I had ALL...
