e-mail attachment by jjm
I sent myself a word document email attachment from another computer to my vista home computer. After opening it I spent hours working on the document, hitting the "save" icon, but never saving it as a file. Now I'm getting the message that there is no path to this document. The changes I worked on don't seem to be saved anywhere. I hate to lose all the work. If I hit save, it must be saved...

can RoboCopy copy a Junction but not its contents? by Tim Mackey
hi. i've just been reading up on RoboCopy and am considering it as a partition-level backup tool, especially for moving a windows installation to a new drive: http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/12/07/100596.aspx it seems to have a major deficiency in how it handles junction points. as far as i know, it either exclude junctions altogether or recursively copy their contents (in a...

Windows Explorer Scroll Bar by home_user
I am using Vista Home Premium. It seems the Windows Explorer in Vista does not have a horizontal scroll bar anymore. Has Microsoft done away with the horizontal scroll bar for any particular reason (reasons I would fail to fathom)? If not, how do I get the horizontal scroll bar to show up again in the Windows Explorer? Having to scroll back up everytime to look at folders below the...

File name too long for deletion by Shalalith
I have a filename that is really long, but vista will not let me delete it. I have tried several other ways, but they do not work. I also cannot rename it so that the name is smaller. What should I do?

Extend Partition in Vista by Mark
I have Vista Premium with a 150 Gb Hard Disc. This was part of a new Dell PC already partitioned in the expected C:\ drive for the OS and D:\ for recovery. I wanted to add another partition and move all my files from the public directory. However, on shrinking free space I was only able to create a maximum 20 Gb partition so have not been able to move all of my public files (I'm about 30 Gb...

Files have turned into Folders by Websken
I have been sorting out my Music Folder which contains about 700+ files. At the same time I was transferring some of these files over to iTunes so that I could put them on my iPod. However, when I went back to my Music Folder, I found that all the files had been turned into folders, i.e. all songs by the same artist, say Anastacia, have now been put into a folder named 'Anastacia'. I have...

3xQ - "New Folder" button?, "- Shortcut" suffix, Preview bug? by Julian
Vista HP 1. Is there any way to restore/create a New Folder button for Explorer windows... (why on earth did they take it away???) 2. How can I tell Vista to stop adding "- Shortcut" to shortcut names? (aaargh!) 3. Bug? (or oversight!) Shortcut to an image produces an image in the Details pane, but I get "No Preview Available" in the Preview Pane

Send To menu in VISTA by zelda139
I want to add Notepad and Wordpad to the list of applications that appears when I select Send To from the right click menu in Explorer when using VISTA - Explorer 6.0.6000.16386. In previous versions of Windows I would just add shortcuts to the SendTo folder, but I cannot find a SendTo folder on my C: drive.

.xps files default to Firefox :-) by Daniel Noll
I've recently noticed that whenever you double-click an XPS file, it opens in the default web browser, i.e. Mozilla Firefox. As there is no Firefox plugin the browser than asks you to save the file. Pretty amusing, I thought. On checking the file association, .xps files are associated with "XPS Viewer". Yet they open in Firefox anyway. :-) Workaround is to bind them explicitly to IE, but...

Disabling Thumbnail caching by James L
Back in the XP days, Windows would generate a thumbs.db file to cache your thumbnails. This was easy enough to stop when I did not want it because there was a folder option to disable it. Now, in Vista, it seems thumbs.db is back with a vengeance. There is a folder on my system that I do constant work in, and often I zip up this whole folder and feed it to a program (that can read zip...

Documents folder by Chris Neill
Hi, I was attempting to move the Documents folder to another partition of my hard drive when I lost it and can't restore it from the recycle bin - is there any way I can get it back? It was empty so not worrying about it's contents, just need to have it restored as it was originally. All advice welcome! Regards, Chris Neill.

Can't set up new user by mikerapolas
There are 2 users on my system, me and my wife. When wife tries to switch to her user it goes through the motions and ends up just showing a blue screen, with the cursor arrow. The cursor moves but has no function at all. When I tried to add a new user it went through all that it has to and told me it was going to set up the desk top. Screen turned blue and the rest is stated above.

Windows Explorer - Preview by Dictionary option/Bob
A recent Microsoft note '8 timesaving tips for Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office release' pointed me to a way of previewing a file etc, without actually opening the file. This facility would be very useful to me; BUT.... when I go to STARTCOMPUTERORGANIZELAYOUT - I should then see an option for PREVIEW. I don't. Anyone know what the problem is, and how I can fix it please.
