I am VERY new at Outlook, and I am working on a Vista desktop but have an XP laptop. Can I somehow use a flash drive to transfer the Outlook data from this desktop to the laptop each day? I just don't want to mess up anything. Thank you in advance! -- laprostitch ------------------------------------------------------------------------ laprostitch's Profile:...

Display Folders and Files on seperated locations in one Folder. by CAPHome
I have a WHS (1 Tb) and a large network Icybox drive (1 Tb). General folders like Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. are on both drives. Now I would like to see the contents of f.i. the Documents folder from both drives in one and the same folder. If I click on an item, it should be opened from the right spot. How can I do this on my Vista-notebook? Or do have to buy special software? And when...

Disk management console view is not up-to-date by vankampenp[_2_]
I have stumbled on a problem that is reported in many forms in different forums, but it is always blamed to something else or not solved. Problem: Not possible to extend a volume, because in the final step the Extend Volume Wizard reports (after clicking Finish): -The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh...

Anyone Noticed that Vista Displays Free Disk Space Wrong? by Axel Dahmen
Did anyone notice that Vista calculates free disk space wrong? I'm using a D: drive for storing data. The drive hosts many Virtual PC hard disks, approx. 20 GB each. The drive is marked to compress all files. There is approx. 70 GB free disk space on D: (according to Windows Explorer "Computer" node). I've now copied some files from D: to F:. Nothing else... After hours of waiting and after...

Vista does not find files!!!!! by no_nick
I have Vista w/SP1 installed on two machines and have seen this "file search is completely broken" problem on each. This is so incredibly weird and stupid, and I'm very ****ed that Vista won't even produce results for a simple file search. So, I'm in Vista and the little search box at top right is present on any directory I browse of course. I'm trying to find a file that's in a directory, a...

Vista uses offline file while connected to network by ChEBass
My offline files work fine when I am offline, but I am never sure once I connect to the network if I am using the offline copy or the network copy. If I do a manual sync it seems to make the connection and use the network files for awhile but then later, without disconnecting from the network, it appears to start using the offline copies again. Any help out there? -- ChEBass

How to open the search folder by oscar
The Search function searches those areas in which it had been instructed in the Indexing Options (find in System and Maintenance via Control Panel). If you want to look for files on a CD or DVD then right click the Drive and use Explore. To get to Search function, the quickest way is Windows Logo + F. Also, don't forget about the advanced options in Search which allows you to choose Search...

Restore Vista backup files to an XP machine? by Steve
I have been using Windows Backup to secure files on a Vista Home Premium laptop to a disk on my XP desktop. Three days ago the laptop fried its mainboard and is now in hospital. Of course we are all hoping for a speedy recovery, but meantime all the files are tucked away in .zip's in a tree of folders. Any way of using XP to restore the files into a structure that users can...

Acronis and Vista by George W. Barrowcliff
My 100Gb laptop drive is getting crowded and I am going to upgrade to a 250. Previously with my desktop, I used Acronis to do a full backup to a USB drive, made a bootable CD rom with USB drivers, replaced the existing drive with the 250, and booted up from the CD. At that point I was able to do a full restore from the USB connected drive and have had zero problems. I would like to follow...

How to delete the list of backup dates from Vista Ultimate by BigCat[_2_]
I've re-organised my files and folders so I deleted the last full system backup and 3 incremental backups of files and folders in preparation prior to running a new system backup. I've used the tutorials on Vista Forums to edit the registry so that now when I go to Backup and Restore Centre the two entries for last time I backed up files and folders and the entry for the last system backup have...

Why do my postings not appear in this list? by JimW[_3_]
I have posted a couple of messages over the last couple of days. And, at least one of them was answered by someone. But, when I view the list, I don't see my own postings. Hmmm I'm using Vista, Microsoft Mail as the newsreader. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jim

can I back-up only new files in Home Edition? by andyalchemist
Hi everyone, I keep backing up files to an external hard drive and every time it makes a complete copy, and soon fills the hard drive with copies. Then if I delete the oldest I may lose things in there that are not in recent back-ups. How can I remedy this in Vista Home edition? Thanks.

Program Files Folder in two partitions by Rulleri
I use Vista 64bit, by default my computer came with two physical hard drives, one named D:\ (Os) and D:\ (Data) I own a 750GB external drive, where I located all my docs, pictures, music... So the "D" Drive stills empty. Meanwhile the "C" Drive is short of space, because all programs installed. It is a good idea create another Program Files in the "D" drive to free space for Vista and...

How to index network files AND not fill your primary drive by Jesper Hauge[_2_]
How do I do this: Due to company policy, my "Documents" folder gets relocated to a folder on our SBS server. As far as I can tell, my only option if want to include these files in my Vista search index is to make these files offline accessible. When I do this, Vista makes a local copy of the files somewhere under c:\users\myusername\AppData.
