How to create a virtual directory in "My Computer" listing by Richard
I have several directories that I access fairly often so I would like to add them to the top level listing of "My Computer" for easy access. I know I could do shortcuts on the desktop but would also like access via the "My Computer" listing. Is there anyway to create a "virtual" directory pointing to the subdirectory I want jump too and having that show up in "My Computer" ?

Public folders by silverbob
Can public folders be disabled? This my home PC and I'm running Home Premium. Nobody else uses this PC and its not on a network. So, the concept of public folders is irrelevant for me. I found that some programs I installed placed files in my public folders. And, when I remove them, my program no longer works. And, there's this little public folders icon in my task bar that's taking...

Users on "C" Drive by vwayne
Been reading this forum for help, but can't find my identical problem. So I'll try to explain. I'm having a problem with files on my new computer, Vista 64 Ultimate. I have my OS and Apps on C drive, and all my data on a separate physical drive which I call F. Today I sent documents and some pictures from the F drive to my Users file under Document and Pictures. But when I checked my C drive I...

Can't delete Font ... NOT Windows Fonts by JennB213[_5_]
Hello, I have two separate hard drives in my HP Laptop, running Vista Home Premium, 32 Bit. I also show the partition for my Vista re-install. On the second Hard Drive I use it strictly for miscellaneous storage items. Today while going through some fonts I had saved from a group I discovered Vista WILL NOT let me delete those fonts I don't want .. *THESE ARE NOT INSTALLED Fonts*, only in a...

Allocation units by mazorj
In Vista 64 home premium SP1, in running chkdsk for C: at the end it states that there are 85,144,492 "total allocation units on disk" but the next line says there are 187,552 "allocation units available on disk". No disk errors were found. 1. What are allocation units and why are they there? 2. Does this mean I'm running out of allocation units? If 187,552 represents 0.22% of the...

Is Acronis Startup Recovery compatible with Vista Startup Repair? by Tim Walters[_2_]
My laptop is an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and my OS is Vista Home Premium Version 6.0 Build 6000. I haven't been able to install SP1. I've done a mirror image of Drive C on an external HD by Acronis. Acronis offers the option of accessing Startup Recovery (through F11) if the OS fails to boot. Is there any danger of a conflict between this and Vista's own startup repair system? Second...

Vista Backup Failing : 0x80070002 Error Code by Colin
My PC tried to run its weekly backup tonight, but failed. This is the first time this has happened - the last successful backup was on 4th February 2008. Running Vista Home Premium, and I back up my C Drive files onto a second internal hard drive. This drive has two partitions (Z and F). Z is just used for backups, and there is still 176GB free out of 238GB on the partition. The error...

unable to associate file type by phegger
I am unable to associate .tpo files w/the default program, Topo. I use the Set Association feature and when I get to Open With I navigate to the topo.exe file but it never shows up in the list of Other Programs. Why oh why?? Topo does show up in my list of installed programs BTW.

Vista Backup Utility : Incremental backup questions by Nicholas Thompson - Me
I'm using the Vista backup utility every week. On the first week I did a full Backup and since then I've been doing incrementals. Oh, I have the Vista Home Premium version of Backup. I've noticed that my incremental backups are very large (gigabytes) despite fact that I've hardly made any changes/additions to my files since the previous backup. Does anyone know why this might be?

Indexing - I got it stopped. Now, how do I restart it? by R. C. White, MVP
For the first week or so after I installed Vista Ultimate x64, the Indexing Service ran almost continuously. After a few days, Vista complained that it was running out of room on my Drive C:. The index file was taking over 10 GB on that 20 GB volume, crowding out everything else. So, I created a new 20 GB volume (I've got plenty of hard disk space nowadays.) and dedicated it to just the...

find file containing text inside the file by rgrainer
Please tell me how can I find a file, such as a text file, that contains a specific string within the file. For example I create (AutoCAD) Autolisp programs with an extention of *.lsp which is just a basic text file that contains my code. In XP (I got rid of the dog and set it up to the advanced appearance) I just clicked on the search button and entered *.lsp (in the first box that says...

Error Message -Item Not Found- by nicjp
When trying to remove a file, I keep getting an error, that states the item is not found and that windows cannot delete or move the file because it is no in the specified location. I can see the folder, it is there, it just won't delete or move to the recycle bin.

Windows Explorer problems by Roger Van Loon
I went from Win31 though Win95, Win ME, and Win XP (by far the best of all). They did not give me any serious problems (just to say that I am not an absolute Newbie). Now I had to buy a new PC with Windows Vista pre-installed and, after several weeks, I am getting more and more frustrated. The main pain is Explorer, and I wonder if I should give up, format the drive, and install my old XP...

Someone help me fix my Windows Explorer Search Please! by IllNeverHaveYouAgain
I made a post on the MSDN forums but I received no help. If you read it though it will detail the steps I've already taken to correct the problem, none of which worked. It'll help when you make suggestions that I might already have tried. http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPost.aspx?postid=2309384&siteid=1 Anyway. A brief synopsis of my problem: Using either the Windows Explorer Search...
