Searching Firefox bookmarks with WDS? by
Peter Frank
Hi,
Is there some kind of add-on or a method that would allow me to search
my Firefox bookmarks with Vista's Windows Desktop Search (WDS) the way
it can be done for Internet Explorer Favorites?

ANS: "What's the deal with UAC (Windows Needs Your Permission scre by

Hello,
I've noticed that a lot of the questions in these newsgroups are either
directly or indirectly related to UAC (User Account Control). In this post,
I will go over what UAC does, how it works, the reasoning behind it, how to
use your computer with UAC on, why you shouldn't turn UAC off, and answer
some common questions and respond to common...

Solution: Opening 15+ files, or multiple file types, simultaneously in Vista by
ananda6359[_2_]
The system shell for Windows Vista has been purposely built by Microsoft
such that ...
- When files of various types are selected simultaneously, the option
to open them is made inaccessible to the system shell, whether through
their context menu or the keyboard (i.e., pressing {Enter}). This is
governed by file extensions, not by the program handling the files
(e.g., it occurs when...

Folder recovery problems by
Robert Miles
Today, I tried to recover a Windows Mail folder
containing at least one message that I lost months
ago. Ran into assorted problems:
1. The backup and restore center makes it
rather difficult to recover anything so old that
the backups catalog has been corrupted and
erased a few times since that item was stored
a backup. I finally got around this by telling
it I needed to restore something put...

Are my files arranged as they should be? by
browniebodrum
When I got my Vista Business laptop in spring I had a lot of problems
accessing folders which I'd transferred over from my previous laptop which
was running XP, and I kept getting messages to say I did not have permission
to open the folder (or something like that) even though I am the only user of
the Vista machine (as I was on the XP machine) and I have administrator
rights in Vista.
I'd...

Explorer Folder SGowing 58 Files Sound Showing 54 by
JamesJ[_4_]
Vista Basic x32 sp2
I moved the location of Vista's Media folder to a folder I call Sounds.
When I open the folder in Sound to set a wav file to an event it displays only 54 files
while explorer is showing 59 ( the actual number).
Any reason why the two places in vista would show a different number of files??

Bad performance when copying EFS-encrypted files by
Helge Klein
I have found what is probably a bug in Vista and/or Windows 7: when
copying EFS-encrypted files to a different computer without EFS
performance is severely degraded. This is caused by 30 second timeouts
during which the copy target looks for non-existent domain
controllers.
I have described the issue and a workaround in detail...

Explorer views change from saved settings randomly by
Adam Sandler
Hello:
I'm running 32 bit Vista Home Basic. From Explorer, I have set the
view for files and folders to details, sorted by type, and in Tools |
Folder Options | View and clicked on Apply to Folders.
The problem I'm having is every now and again, Explorer decides to
display it how it it wants... often showing my files in the large icon
view, and putting the tags, rating, and date taken columns...

The disappearance of local disk (D:) after full system recovery in Vista Home Premium by
Killborn
Lesson learned the hardway: After accidentally deleting a number of bios
settings, and receiving an error message that read: Your Operating Sytem
is missing., when simply trying to change the boot sequence order of my
OS, I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium with the OS disk and the
apps. and drivers from the recovery disks I had made shortly after
purchase. I was not aware that running this...
