I've noticed that a lot of the questions in these newsgroups are either

I will go over what UAC does, how it works, the reasoning behind it, how to

GetOpenFileName on Vista, won't recognise lpstrInitialDir by
JohnD
Hello All,
I posted this on the programmer.ui group and got no help, so I'm
cross-posting here. Hope that's OK.
I've got a problem with GetOpenFileName on Vista.
It never recognises the lpstrInitialDir field of the OPENFILE structure and
always starts off in the current working directory.

MSVCP71.dll by

When I run some programs, I get an error that I don't have this file.
I've tried downloading it, putting it in my system32 folder, and
regestering it, but I can't regester it because its a 32bit file, and im
running on 64bit.
How can I fix this?

Filenames Do Not Match by
Dzomlija
Can anyone explain this:
3219
The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a
directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window
showing different filenames than the command line window?
It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled
backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it
soon.

Conversion of file list to Word Document by
Carch
How can one convert the list of files in a folder, as shown on "View...List"
in Explorer, to a Word Document without first capturing the screen, printing
the image, then physically scanning the printed page, and finally utilizing
the OCR program? I do not wish to retype the lists as text documents, which
I nearly and effectively have to do when the OCR has been used previously in
this...

Explorer does not refresh the screen by
Peter K. Livingston
I experience annoyingly often, that when working with files and folders the
Explorer does not refresh its window contents w/o my pressing F5. Even new
folder request or moving files makes nothing with the file list, resorting
the files does not help either - just F5.
Annoying!!! Frustrating!!!
Any advice appreciated,
Peter

Can't delete backup folder/files by
mdnarch
Vista Home Basic, UAC off - I created a full backup over a year ago, on
my C drive. I now want to make a new full backup to DVD, but I would
like to delete the old one first because it is large (16 GB). When I
attempt to delete it Vista goes through all the motions of recycling,
then returns a message "Destination Folder Access Denied - You need
permission to perform this action".
The backup...

Junction Points by
Dzomlija
I had previously used a JBOD array of 3 hard disks to create a single
volume in which to store all my music and videos. To make a long story
short, I'm no longer using this JBOD array.
I still want to store my music and videos on these three drives, but
when I use Media Player to add to the library, I only want to be able to
specify one folder, but the scan must go across all three drives...

Searching files by
wilmon44
How do I search the contents of multiple documents and spreadsheets using
Vista's search? In previous versions the office Assistant could search the
contents of files for information, providing the user with a list of
documents containing the search term.

Explorer Shortcuts and Address Bar by

Whenever I navigate to a folder using a shortcut, the path displayed in the
address bar does not show the full physical path of the folder. The path of
the folder shows as relative to the location of the shortcut itself. For
example:
Suppose the real path is: c:\rootfolder\subfolder\targetfolder\ and I create
a shortcut named "Fred" on my desktop that points to this folder. If I...

Vista Explorer File Dissappearance Annoyance by
domikring
I've been using Vista x64 for about a year now, and am generally satisfied,
but it has one habit that is VERY annoying: Deleting a single file in a
"pictures" folder in "list" view causes the entire window pane to empty. I
have to refresh the pane to bring back the list of the folder contents. Is
this normal behavior? - it wasn't in XP. Is there a way to fix it so the pane
auto-refreshes in...
