Default Power Icon not updating

A few days ago, I noticed on my laptop running vista home premium that my
battery icon stays at 100%, even when I have been running on the battery for
an hour or so. I have no idea why its doing this. It has also occasionally
told me that my battery is at 2%, even though it has been plugged in.
yesterday My computer randomly shut itself off. It acted as though I just
took the battery out without shutting down. I know both of my batteries are
good since I can test them in other computers and they show upand work fine.
Whats going on?

As randomly as this problem started, it has quit having problems. i don't
know what to make of it. Today i sat down to fiddle with it. and everything
is working correctly. I can just hope it doesn't start up again.
