Default Dual Monitors, 1 has no display

I have been using dual monitors to extend my display area. Last night it
appears that there was an automatic update to my PC. Not a problem, except
now my second display is not showing up. I know it's on because the power
button is blinking. How do I get the second monitor to show the display
again?
This happened before after an update but I can't remember how we fixed it.
I'm using Vista.
Thanks

Do you have an nVidia or ATI control panel? or maybe DisplayFusion?

You may find it in the notification area (by the clock) or you can right
click on a clear part of the desktop, and then select the appropriate
control panel from the ensuing drop down menu..

Try powering off and disconnecting the monitor then power on and then off
again after the desktop fully loads. Reconnect the monitor and power up and
see if it properly detected.
