Default Windows detected a hard disk problem

I'm getting this error message for my new Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB
drive. I've got 2 of them installed and 1 is being reported as failing.
This is a consistent error that I get every session. I accidentally
turned off the warning message and would like to know how to reset it in
Vista. Not sure if this post belongs in this forum so please move it to
the right one if necessary. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to reset the warning message, but frankly, it doesn't
matter. Back up your data now and run a diagnostic utility on the drive.
Get it from Samsung. If you can't easily find it, contact Samsung tech
support to RMA the drive immediately.

Download and run
http://www.samsung.com/global/busine...s/ES_Tool.html

If you purchased the drives recently, you may get quicker replacement from
your supplier. It depends on their DOA (Dead On Arrival) policy.

Hi, I also have this annoying message with my non-OS hdd
"A problem with the hard drive has been detected"
Even after 2 diskchk runs, a full system backup and other tests, this
message will not go away.
Any help would be appreciated.

The message won't go away because your hard drive is probably dying. Run a
diagnostic utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. You will
create a bootable CD (may need third-party burning software). Burn as an
image, not as data. Boot with the CD you created and do a thorough test. If
the drive fails any physical tests, replace it.

Thanks for the advice. I did as you suggested on both Spinpoint 500Gb
drives using Hutil with no errors found (took 4 hours to run) The 2 SATA
drives are only 3 months old, I'm running Ultimate 64 bit from the drive
that is not reported with a fault.

The message first appeared after I did a soft reboot because a very
very large excel spreadsheet locked up the machine whilst trying to
calculate and save to the problem drive.

When I turn off SMART in the BIOS I don't get the message. I would
like to find out where this message is stored so it can be reset.

Regards Lezza
